Ten Ghetto Fabulous Don’ts
Since nothing today is working properly, we thought that it would be a fun activity (to waste time in between screaming at people) to sit down and slightly make fun of Fabulous Ghetto Fashions (new category on Fahion Indie), that we have all been submerged in. So we collaborated and came up with our 10 faves. Enjoy…

1. Super Baggy Pants - Pants have sizes for a reason, so that they fit … correctly. Why spend money on something that is three sizes too big? Was your size not available?

This also includes shorts; if they’re down to your ankles then they aren’t really shorts anymore, are they? And that defeats the purpose. Pull them up, no one wants to see your boxers! 2. Colored Diamonds- Some time ago, it became “cool” for men to have their ears pierced. It started with little hoops and has turned into massive diamond studs, or even worse; name plates. Come On! Really? So, it’s attractive when men wear pink or yellow studs? Are they even real? Colored diamonds are expensive, and in those sizes….If my bf had studs bigger than mine, I wouldn’t be a happy camper! Oh, and please keep them out out of your mouth !

3. Image Overload. Having dollar signs, diamonds, Disney characters, or anything like that all over your clothes is ugly, period! It makes the clothes look cheap, which then makes you look silly. And besides, Mickey, Daffy, and Goofy are not cool for anyone over the age of 5.

4. Baseball Caps With The Sticker Still On - Those are meant to be removed, thats why they’re removable. N0 need to advertise the size of your head, the manufacturer, or how much you paid for it.
5. Full Denim Jumpsuits - There CAN absolutely be too much of a good thing, and unless your Jennifer Lopez, chances are this look isn’t very flattering on you anyway. PS: This includes an all denim outfit, the pieces don’t have to be connected.
6. Long Nails - Acrylic or not, nails shouldn’t go much past the ends of your fingers. They should never be so long they start to curve, and once you add airbrushed patterns and rhinestones, they’re plain scary. So unless your performing a traditional Thai dance, clip them. Although, it IS very entertaining to watch a cashier type with those things.7. Name Plates - Why can’t you just introduce yourself? Why does your name, or your baby mamma’s name, have to be on your crotch, neck, ears, fingers, ect? Other words aren’t acceptable either like “pimp,” “dope,” or “sexy.” Totally NOT sexy!

This dude was nominated for a Grammy. Yeah, we’re serious.
8. Grillz - Are you serious… ew. I can’t imagine that tastes good in your mouth and it looks beyond ridiculous. I wouldn’t want to kiss anyone with metal in their mouth. It’s like dentures only for people who don’t have missing teeth. Or do they?

Lil Jon a.k.a Our Generations Liberace
9. Bling - First of all, the word is stupid. Second, you don’t need diamonds (or whatever your diamond replacement of choice is) all over everything. Thirdly, you shouldn’t have a piece of jewelry the size of your head.

10. Multi-Colored Neon Sneakers - Make up your mind! That’s all I have to say…PS: Please no hate mail for this article!

Designer Discovery: Felipe Oliveira Baptista
Portuguese designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista has been in the fashion industry since 1997, working for such names as Max Mara, Cerruti and Thimister as well as doing free lance design, photography and graphic design. He showed his first collection under his own name in 2002 and was quickly recognized, becoming the co-winner of the “Grand Prix” at the “Festival de Hyeres”, since then he has won several other awards as well as been invited to join the official Calender of Paris Haute Couture, fathered by Hermes and Gaultier. He has now launched his 2008 Spring collection, a mix of couture and ready-to-wear.
The collection was full of blocks of bright colors, geometric shapes and lines paired with solid black or white. As a fun detail, each model wore a superhero type mask in matching colors, many of them wore tee-shirts printed with masks resembling those of Mexican wrestlers, and one girl even sported a cape. The pieces included skirts and dresses cut above the knee, skinny jeans, long vests, waist length jackets and striped platform heels.

Versace Fashion Show in Milan
Outerwear was a strong focus at Versace, and Donatella showed us everything from exaggerated versions of military coats, to sleek colored motorcycle jackets, great leathers and wool overcoats. The collection was inspired by the paintings of art deco artist Tamara de Lempicka– a fave or Madonna and Jack Nicholson– and the inspiration was reflected in a dark, brooding palette and oversized proportions. photos: men.style.com

Alexander McQueen shows in Milan
Alexander McQueen is such a forward thinker that sometimes the viability of his collection is not immediately apparent. His stuff often seems a little too “out there” to be saleable or understandable to the average customer. McQueen recently went to India and was so inspired, he designed a whole collection around what he saw there. His fall/winter collection is all about prints from the sub continent- a clash of pattern and color. We’ve got some pics after the jump.We know the collection is a little bizarre, but you know in 5 years we will all be wearing some variation of this. photos: men.style.com

Gucci in Milan
I dont usually love Gucci but something about the fall /winter collection, presented today in Milan is really getting me going. The Russian Cossack/jetsetter boho rock n roller, Eugene Hutz-inspired collection is totally translatable to today’s skinny-jeans wearing hipster. A few ethnic accessories, a furry vest, velvet skinny jeans and you’re there. You can keep your 2 toned jazz wingtips or beat up jazz shoes, too. More pics after the jump. photos: men.style.com

Yoko Devereaux Fashion Show
We didn’t realize how much we missed Yoko Devereaux’sfashion shows until we went to the fall/winter 08 debut on Monday. It was the first show for Yoko Devereaux in several seasons and the venue was packed with the usual gang of scenesters, editors, buyers and celebrity friends like Alan Cumming, Sophia Lamar and Ana Matronic. The collection, designed under the guidance of creative director Andy Salzer, featured graphics by artist Charles Lutz, as well as cardigans, skinny ties, super skinny pants and chic hoodies in a palette of basic black, white, slate blue and gray for the guy who wants to toe the line between cutting edge and just plain cool.

Number (N)ine Paris Fashion Show
PARIS RUNWAY: NUMBER (N) INE
The ’90s revivial is on and popping! At the Number (N)ine show in Paris yesterday, designer Takahiro Miyashita paid homage to Kurt Cobain with a collection that was full-on grunge. Called My Own Private Portland, Miyashita gave us layers of mismatched flannels, thrift store sweaters, Elmer Fudd hats, plaid shirts, shabby knits, busted shoes, and even moccasins that took us waaay back. We’ve got pics after the jump. (photos:men.style.com)

Dsquared Fall 2008
At yesterday’s DSquared show, ski met ska as the Caten twins sent looks down the runway that merged a London street style sensibility with the warm, active looks of a ski bum. The boys created an elaborate backdrop to set the mood: a wintry Boystown with fire escapes, a tavern, and a blistering snowstorm, as reported in men.style.com.Bleached denim, leather MC jackets, skinny braces and tiny white button front shirts set the London mood while luxurious parkas and chubbies, ski pants and chunky sweaters were all about the slopes. The result was less camp and more saleable than past collections, for sure. We’ve got pics after the jump! photos: men.style.com
