I wasn’t sure about this campaign when I first saw it. I thought it was too similar to everything else I’ve been seeing recently. But the more I look at the ads, the more I feel like photographer Steven Meisel knew exactly what he was doing. Everything this fall has been wild and busy with a lot of clutter and multiple models a spread. I like the noise, but the deliberate simplicity of the Dsquared2 campaign shows the fall ‘08 line in a different light. It doesn’t have to be over the top and outrageous but accessible for everyday dressing. Maybe is more ads were like these, people would whip out the fab garb more often.
