Anti-Advertising Agency Strikes Again

         April 14th, 2008

So the Anti-Advertising Agency is looking to get you to stop spending. Which is great, cause I’ve been uber broke latelies and this just helps keep some much needed moola in my pocket. They are giving away free stickers to people who are looking to join their cause. Just send a self address stamped business envelope to:

Steve Lambert/Anti-Advertising Agency
c/o Eyebeam OpenLab
540 W.21st ST.
New York, NY 10011

And within a few weeks you’ll get a package filled with these goodies and then you can sticker away…

I love this. It was probably inevitable that people would start doing this to balance out our consumer culture.

This is stupid and arrogant. “You don’t need it” well theres a lot of crap int he world you don’t need either. Do you NEED the internet? do you NEED a Car? do you NEED a phone? no. its entirely possible to get by without a lot of junk. Does it make sense to? no. Heres a better question. Who are they to tell me what I can and cannot do with my dollar? They’re being just as bad as the advertising companies themselves. There’s no suggestion that you should not buy something material, its saying “I know what you need, and its not this.” if these stickers asked a question “do you really need this?” it would be more sensible.

First of all, stop using the computer and leaving comments as your only means of connecting to people. There are real people outside.

Second, Sensible Human who wrote the comment above is a freakin idiot. SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE YOU STUPID IDIOT. You seem to be just the problem that this type of advertising is aimed at curbing. Maybe it should say, You don’t need it, idiot, and shut up.

    I’m glad I don’t know you.

Sorry, but lastly, this is not as bad as advertising. Advertising is trying to change your mind to buy into this corporate America crap. They believe you should go into debt to live what advertisers perceive is a great life. In reality, you end up not happy and needing more stuff to fill your meaningless life, doing just what they set out to do. This campaign is trying to get people to stop and think, instead of letting marketing and advertising companies control your thought, which Sensible Human obviously has given in to. If there was any room in Sensible Human’s head, or others, they would stop and look up statistics about advertising towards people under 18 and you would be shocked how targeted advertising can lead to lifelong spending. Or a loss of perceived need of products.

I think this is a great way to counter our over consuming culture here in America. I’ve already written the address on my envelope and am getting some tomorrow.

Why don’t you answer the man’s questions? Do you really NEED the internet? or a phone? Sure “SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE YOU STUPID IDIOT” is a valid response, but can anyone do better? Who are you to tell people how they should spend their money. If they are too stupid to be influenced by an ad that’s their problem. We don’t need you to play superheros.

And yeah it is hypocritical to bash advertising when this website is loaded with them. Advertising is how you make money don’t be ungrateful.
