Archive for Daniel Saynt

Founder and main dude at Fashion Indie, Daniel Saynt began his career in fashion at the tender age of 14, when he worked in the stockroom for some unnamed fashion whorehouse. His distaste for the mainstream quickly festered until he decided enough was enough, denouncing all mainstream fashion lines (unless the stuffs on sale or just down right irresistible or free, you can't say no to free).

Spread’Um: Claudia Schifer in German Vogue

Note to Claudia: Mouse-hide coats are not sexy, they are terrifying and little bit creepy. You’re like the sexy version of the scary cat lady who lives in our building who honestly feels her “friends” are bringing her “presents” when they leave half eaten rat carcasses on her bed.

More picts from Claudia’s German Vogue spread after the jump…

Victoria Beckham Still Hawking DVB?

So confused right now. I thought (also see hoped and wished) DVB was done and out since Victoria filed a lawsuit against Rock & Republic?  Guess that won’t stop her from a whirlwind promotional tour in the UK for the denim line.  She wore some jeans from the line which were in desperate need of some hemming. Come on Vicky as a “fashion icon” you should really try to work on dressing in clothes that fits right, unless you’re trying to start some wickedly stupid trend.

Boutique Critique: Aloha Rag

Photobucket

I’m as giddy as a school girl on prom night. The new Aloha Rag store rocks out with it’s Hawaiian cock out at its new Greenwich Street outpost. This is one retailer I do adamantly hope sticks around cause the pretentiously ill spots like 7 are getting so tiring to shop at lately.

The store was founded in Honolulu in 1991 by Tatsugo Yoda but found a minor cult following online.

The new location will carry of the designers that define the Hawaii store and online selection, including a limited edition collabo with Japanese label Garment House Mania, select 3.1 Phillip Lim, Lanvin, Martin Margiela, and Yochinori Kotake Design, in addition of several smaller, independent designers from Japan and New York.

I love the cool, clean array of men’s and women’s clothing, but Aloha Rag’s accessories collection is what impresses us the most – unisex totes and sneakers from Lucian Pallat-Finet, Ksubi sunglasses, spring-y cotton scarves from Golden Goose are just a few.

Start Munching Celery Sticks with Tabasco. Rachel Zoe’s Clothing Line Coming SOON

The similarities are mind boggling

When did Rachel Zoe become enough of a celebrity to get her own clothing line?  The Anna Wintour reject, who has a reality show coming soon on Bravo, has been in talks with The Beanstalk Group to create a line of apparel, accessories and undergarments under the Rachel Zoe brand.

Really? Is this what we need? What kind of Zoe brand accessories will they produce, a tonsil tickler made in the shape of Rachies finger?

This stick figure is a chronic ano with the face only a retarded mother alligator could love. She should really consider ironing her face before she hits the boob tube, or at least attempt to eat something before she starts pushing out goods.

Breakfast with Louis Vuitton

Oh god, I’m gonna sound like a complete sell out right now, but todays breakfast with Louis Vuitton CEO Daniel Lalonde was one of the most feel good moments of my year. Meeting at a small private library at the St. Regis Hotel, Louis Vuitton invited Fashion Indie and a couple of other blog friendlies including Nitrolicious blogger Wendy L, Bag Snob Tina Craig, and Fashion Triber Lesley Scott. The event was surprisingly intimate as the Vuitton clan asked all the bloggers in the room straight out “How do we work with you?”

The directness of their approach and ability to state their concerns with brand image, information distribution, and working with bloggers was really frank, but at the same time polished and very, not surprisingly, corporate.  We offered suggestions like create blogger login pages and develop events for bloggers, but what I really left with was that many companies are interested in reaching us but have no real means to do it.

Some key points from the breakfast are below, and no, I did not receive money or product to write this shit, so don’t get all up my ass in the comments section for “endorsing” the house of Louis. It’s just interesting stuff I thought y’all might like.

  •  Journeys ad campaign was inspired by the need for the brand to return to it’s routes. Each person in the campaign has been chosen for the life experiences they have had.  Louis spent the last ten years developing the other verticals of the brand (ready to wear, accessories) but felt it was the right time to give us consumers a throwback.  SPOILER ALERT: The next Journeys ad campaign will feature a couple.  My bets on the Clintons, the Gates, or the Bransons. Big money folks with amazing life journeys.
  • The flowers on the Louis Vuitton bag are some sort of Da Vinci code mystery. Some people think they come from some sort of Asian influence, but one Louis staffer stressed that the petals are very similar to a tile pattern at the old Louis Vuitton home front.
  • There is a Louis Vuitton Bible filled with over 150 years of history for the iconic brand.  Hopefully it will be put in print one day.
  • It’s Vee-ton. Not Vuu-ton.
  • The brand plans to make huge pushes online with talks of a possible “network” for true devotees. User-generated content on LouisVuitton.com. I can see it.
  • Louis Vuitton has never and will never give Paris Hilton a free bag.
  • The brand is like a fifth character in the Sex and the City film.
  • Every blogger wants an interview with Marc Jacobs. No one will get one. Duh?
What I found the most interesting from today was the new message that Louis Vuitton was trying to push with their current campaign. It’s a message that’s older, more mature, and one that displays a true understanding of what luxury should be.  Unfortunately, this is in direct contrast to the behavior being display by posterboy designer, Marc Jacobs. I would like to light the match on this one, but after ten years and recent midlife crisis antics, isn’t it about time for a little reinvention.
New Vs. Old
Would a Marc-less Vuitton better match their new “adult” image?

TrendSpark: High Water Jeans?

Uh oh– Bruce Pask, style setter and men’s fashion director for the NY Times, is finding his pared down basic chic look a little boring.

Now he’s feeling like rolling up his jeans, a la My Three Sons!

Here’s what he wrote in The Moment today: “The other morning I was putting on a pair of jeans to go to work — a regular, nicely worn-in shrink-to-fit pair of Levi’s that I’ve had for quite some time. I put on a pair of sand suede Clark’s desert boots (I’ve been wearing them a lot and loving them lately), looked in the full-length mirror… and felt totally boring. After many traditional jeans-wearing years, with the 501 hem hitting the shoe, this felt ordinary, banal even…and a bit off….”

Chloe Sevigny. Faking Green?

Chloe Sevigny was recently interviewed by New York Magazine. The chick might me more eco-crazed than we originally thought.

“I’m really green, yeah. I annoy everybody, all my friends. Well, I have some friends that are really green, but most of them — I don’t want to use the term Nazi, but I’m very extreme,” Sevigny said. “I don’t ever use plastic bags. Um, I always bring my own to the grocery store. Even when I go to my local bodega, they’re like, ‘No bag, right?’ They always make jokes about me.”

“I try to take smaller baths, I try to eat less meat, I try to only buy organic, and I don’t dry my clothes in the dryer — I hand-dry them.” She “hand-dries” all of her clothes?!

“Sometimes I’ll put them in the dryer for five minutes just to soften it up,” she confessed.

But what if she wants to wear something last minute? “I don’t,” she said. “Ever.”

Okay Chloe, I think you just laid I giant pile of green bullshit cause no one is that much of an eco-nazi.

Please, Please, Please Make Babies

Why does this look so flippin sexy to me? I want them to procreate and fill the earth with millions of little fuck ups who make shitty music.  Amy seems a little surprised but don’t worry Pete she’s just playing hard to get. Slip a couple grams of coke into her cocktail and she’ll be taking fucking your ass in rehab in no time.

Surely, this was some geniously devised attempt to get press coverage. These two are like the Heidi and Spencer of the cracked out cult. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Martha Stewart Defaces Louboutins

Today on the Martha Stewart blog she shares some style secrets. Basically, she hates the red soles on Christian Louboutin’s so she paints them black with a broad sharpie.

Martha, you may just be my hero.

I think this is a great way to showcase your disgust towards branding and identify that the shoes just feel great to wear. Or, you could just be a crazy old woman who likes to flaunt your dislike for labels.

I don’t know which, but I here spray paint works best for the soles and Atomic Pink or Electric blue would be my first color choices. Get noticed while you high-end DIY

The Devil Wears YSL

So someone is really, really into The Devil Wears Prada. The new Stylista show is basically a shittier, faker version of the movie. The boss lady at Elle tries her best to emulate Miranda Priestly, but comes up short cause a) she lacks style, b) Botox doesn’t allow for much emotion, and c) she was nice to the fat girl with ugly glasses (after the jump). This show is in a desperate need of a Patricia Fields make-over. All the style is just so, blah.

First Look: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsens Elizabeth & James Fall 2008

Nylon Magazine shot these looks for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Elizabeth & James Fall 2008 collection. The collection seems completely off from the high couture the girls normally wear, which is actually a good thing.  The youngest grannies in NY have really taken their collection to a new level as seen from the photos here. Gloves, overcoats and very must have hats.
