"Love Jones"

Edited by

"Love Jones"

(nordstrom.com)

I have a serious “love jones” for Boutique 9′s “Val.” I read recently that Nordstrom has a deal with Nine West, whereby they will offer exclusive Boutique 9 and Nine West styles. One of the things that I love about this shoe is the side bow. It’s perfectly placed and just the right accent to this detailed lovely. Reasonably priced at $189.95, it’s definitely a “do.”

Men: Rebel Prep

Edited by

He’s never summered in Nantucket but appreciates a good pair of plaid shorts. He wears Dr. Martens with a double-breasted navy blazer and isn’t afraid to mash up traditional patterns. You can’t quite tell if he’s from London, the Lower East Side, or Greenwich, Connecticut, which is exactly how he likes it. This spring, designer Junya Watanabe built an entire collection around this guy and called it Snob. We call the look preppy with edge.

Men: Rebel Prep

Clockwise from top left: Shirt ($255) by Thom Browne New York, thombrowne.com; Tie ($130) by Band of Outsiders, barneys.com; Tie bar ($29) by Club Monaco, clubmonaco.com. Blazer ($1,700) by Salvatore Ferragamo, 212-759-3822, ferragamo.com for stores; Shirt ($300) by Etro, etro.com for stores. Tie ($689), by Lanvin, lanvin.com. Shorts ($40) by Perry Ellis, macys.com; Belt ($680) by Tom Ford, tomford.com for stores. Tie belt ($380) by Dries Van Noten, barneys.com.Jacket ($1,130) and shirt ($470) by Junya Watanabe, 212-604-9200, saksfifthavenue.com. Middle: Pocket square ($80) by Dries Van Noten, fredsegal.com.

I like it, I like it. While considered “preppy,” the pieces are more relaxed and not as “buttoned up” as some collections. I personally find the preppy with a certain edge a bit more appealing. It’s always interesting to see designers such as Junya Watanabe put their spin on pieces which are not their usual forte.

"The Saga of Naga"

One new jewelry designer to watch is Manila-based Wynn Wynn Ong, who had changed her jewelry-making hobby into a full-time career – and definitely a successful one. The Naga jewelry line by Wynn Wynn Ong features unique and beautiful hand-crafted jewelry designs.

Wynn Wynn Ong’s latest line, the Naga collection, was named after the serpent-like creatures that are part of Buddhist iconography. The collection takes inspirational motifs from nature, such as avian brooches accented by real plumes and beautiful bejeweled neckwear inspired by ocean plankton.

Particularly interesting is Ong’s All Bark, Some Bite lineup: 12 cuffs, treated to look like bark, that feature various scenes revolving around a fictional lemon-citrine spider, named Stella. “It’s a day in the life of Stella,” says Ong, “and what she encounters as she goes up the tree.” Cuff embellishments include vermeil spider webs and gem-encrusted frogs and snakes.

The Naga collection’s prices range from $2,000 to $7,000 available at Firma in the Philippine.

In addition to jewelry, Ong designs smaller collections of bags (clutches made from nautilus shells) and housewear (salad bowls studded with semiprecious stones.

(Cuffs-vivre.com, handbags, ring and picture of Wynn Wynn Ong-dailyfashionandstyle.com)

The article states that Wynn Wynn is a “new designer,” which is incorrect, as her website (nagajewelry.com) dates back to 2001. Whatever the case, her designs are absolute genius! From the concept to the finished product, each piece is decadence at it’s best.

Her “tree bark” cuffs are pure ingenuity; they are so close to the “real thing,” that I had to look very closely to determine that they are the creatively wrought as perfect sculpture. After viewing the cuffs, I ran across the ring and handbags…..I must say that I’ve never seen another handbag that even closely resembles Wynn Wynn’s masterful designs.

All in all, I’m excited about the fact that I happened upon her lush accessories and look forward to seeing more.
