Gucci Première collection on Cannes red carpet

The newly restored version of Luchino Visconti’s Il Gattopardo debuted this evening at the 63rd annual Cannes Film Festival. Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini was joined on the red carpet by the film’s original cast members Alain Delon (Tancredi Falconeri) and Claudia
Cardinale (Angelica Sedara), along with Martin Scorsese, Founder and
Chair of The Film Foundation, who introduced the film.

The following guests wore couture pieces from the new collection, Gucci Première.

Camilla Belle chose a Gucci Première midnight blue silk sable one shoulder gown with degrade embroidered detail.

Jury member Kate Beckinsale wore a Gucci Première silk georgette
antique white gown draped and embroidered with silver micro bugle
beading with metallic silver thread embellished bust and waist detail.

Frida Giannini wore a Gucci Première floor length strapless gown with draped back detail and embroidered with silver lace and micro palettes.

Ms. Giannini also wore one of a kind piece from Gucci’s fine jewelry
collection: Horsebit full pave diamond and cognac topaz earrings.

Lea Seydoux chose a Gucci Première champagne charmeause column gown
with micro matt and shiny pale gold sequin degrade embroidery
throughout. The gown features cut out sleeve and back detail with
bodice encrusted in silver and gold metallic lozenge beading.

Salma Hayek chose a silk georgette Gucci Première scarlet one shoulder
gown with sweeping drape across the waist and hip with red glass bugle
beaded embroidered detail.

Blow Up

Blow Up Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni was a film loosely based on the life of David Bailey and was one of the first films I ever saw
relating to the Fashion Biz. In fact, it was the first time I was ever
exposed to fashion from the vantage point of a photographer. It was a
real eye opener for me in many respects and may have subconsciously
effected how I perceived myself within the “BIZ”. Things have certainly
changed however. If I treated models the way David Hemmings did, the
chances of my getting models in the future would be severely diminished
and I would probably get a swift kick in the Balls! I really love the
set designs, the clothing and the make-up & hair. Some serious
experimentation was going on here and the creative spirit of the 60’s
time frame is so well expressed throughout the film. Also, check out the
music, tantalizingly tacky with a scene of the Yardbirds doing a gig at a club in London. Both
Sarah Miles and Vanessa Redgrave are absolutely wonderful in this cult
film. There is also an appearance with model Veruschka von Lehndorff.

Hillary and the Amazingly Ugly Technicolor Pant Suits

Why is she hailing Hitler?

Actually, each pant suit has been mistakingly monochromatic. Hillary Clinton’s collosal of colorful suits are attention craving, unpleasant, loud and obnoxious. Mmm… maybe they are a better match for Clinton after all. I hate to admit it, but these popsickle solid colored suits have become her signature.

Last night was no exception as Clinton pranced onto the DNC stage in an burnt orange pant suit. Eek. I love Diane Keaton’s Annie Hall masculine look but Clinton has to turned androynous chic into andreadful chic. How did she plan to be president, if she can’t even dress herself? Little steps, Hil. Clinton looks as though she should be running a county fair, not the country.

Recently, NY Mag asked Project Runway’s Tim Gunn of his opinion on the prospective First Lady’s of the United States. Gunn boldly replied that he clearly prefered the fashionable Michelle Obama. Gunn is not merely discussing the two women’s fashion sense. He insightfully intertwines fashion choice with character

“Michelle really epitomizes American style, and she’s not afraid to show her shape, she’s not afraid to show her sexiness without being the least bit inappropriate,” Tim said. “She’s just an alluring woman. And Cindy with her suits and she’s all buttoned up, she’s just soooo — she just looks like she’s duct-taped! There is just something about her, and in a way it’s a metaphor about who she is!”
