RUNWAY: Paul Smith Women Spring 2010

RUNWAY: Paul Smith Women Spring 2010

Paul Smith knows menswear best, so why would you expect anything but androgyny in the man’s Spring 2010 women’s line? Smith sent a plethora of suits, ties, button ups, oxfords, slacks, blazers and cardigans down the runway in a vast variety of colors and prints. Want a solid, hot-pink suit or a royal-blue checkered cardigan? Well, Smith certainly covered all bases and made sure to hit those not terribly feminine, but lady-like none the less, draped, tied and wrapped dresses and blouses. Colorful and cooky, but oh so beautifully constructed.

TRENDSPARK: Greasy Hair?

Edited by

TRENDSPARK: Greasy Hair? TRENDSPARK: Greasy Hair? I love the grunge look and all, but this grease-ball trend, as seen in Jonathan Saunders’ Spring 2010 runway show, is a little overkill. I have long, thin hair and it usually gets greasy after about 4 hours of being out and about. I’m not sure about you, but when the grease appears, I get a little self conscious and have to pull my mess of hair into a ponytail. I understand the effect Saunders is going for, the whole “I’m a cute, innocent little gem but I’ve got a few bad habits” look, but I don’t see the appeal of looking like you cooked bacon on your head. If anything, this Trendspark should end up on your list of “Don’ts” and remind you to wash your hair…stat.

RUNWAY: Burberry Prorsum Spring 2010

Burberry Prorsum closed London’s 25th anniversary Fashion Week, and for good reason. I’m usually not the biggest Burberry fan, but Christopher Bailey’s Spring 2010 collection was a show-stopping, draped heaven. Classic trenches were updated with draping and ruching while dresses got shorter, more youthful and scrunchier. Yes, the Burberry classic gingham did make an appearance via several handbags, but don’t worry, it was kept a subtle minimum!

INCASE YOU CARE: Rag & Bone NOT Selling Chainmail Garb From Their Fall 2009 Collection

INCASE YOU CARE: Rag & Bone NOT Selling Chainmail Garb From Their Fall 2009 CollectionINCASE YOU CARE: Rag & Bone NOT Selling Chainmail Garb From Their Fall 2009 CollectionFor those of you who paid close attention to the Rag & Bone Fall 2009 collection, you probably noticed two covetable pieces: the women’s chainmail shirt and the men’s chainmail scarf (both pictured above). Before you go running over to the Christopher Street store in hopes of snagging these amazing pieces, I did the dirty work for you and was informed that these pieces are not for sale. Stopping by for a quick price-check, I learned Marcus Wainwright and David Neville used the chainmail for styling purposes only and aren’t producing either the shirt or the scarf. Devastation.

The funny part is, I wasn’t the first person who stopped by the store inquiring about the chainmail. Hmm, maybe this is an indication that these pieces SHOULD be reproduced and sold! Next season? Please.

RUNWAY: Meadham Kirchoff Spring 2010

Edited by

RUNWAY: Meadham Kirchoff Spring 2010 Ed Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff have never failed to impress me, and this season, well it’s no different. With the current trend in full, layered grunge mode, how could you not love the disgruntled piecing of Kirchoff’s Spring 2010 collection? A-typical Meadham Kirchoff slit knee pants were in full effect while dismantled blazers acted as the basis for many looks. Androgynous? Oh yes. Chaotic? You bet.

RUNWAY: Marios Schwab Spring 2010

RUNWAY: Marios Schwab Spring 2010 Any collection that involves chain-mail is a good collection in my eyes. Marios Schwab’s Spring 2010 collection was a bit of an experiment, testing the the waters of texture and pattern combinations. Schwab combined pleats with ruffles, chains with floral and draped organza with jewels, among others. How Schwab made these completely different elements fuse together into a cohesive collection is beyond me, but I’m looking forward to mixing and matching just about all of my closet essentials!

RUNWAY: House of Holland Spring 2010 RUNWAY: House of Holland Spring 2010

Henry Holland didn’t bring anything terribly new or interesting to the copious table that is London fashion week. His House of Holland Spring 2010 collection consisted of lace, hanky-panky like bodysuits, some cute little house decal patterns, a few block-print tees and a whole lot of denim on denim. Mr. Holland, however, did not disappoint and brought back the built-in pasties made famous by a pregnant M.I.A during the 2009 Grammy Awards.

RUNWAY: Christopher Kane Spring 2010

If you hadn’t told me this was Christopher Kane’s Spring 2010 collection, I would have expected these looks to be some sort of picnic-table cloth, Project Runway challenge. Leave it up to Kane to bring some avant garde goodies to the runway, but I’m a little unimpressed this season. Sure, Kane has some spectacular corset structuring, but I am totally not feeling the pastel picnic plaids or the ungodly floral prints. Unlike last Spring, pieces from Kane’s 2010 collection most likely won’t fall among the “it” crowd.
