RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Marc By Marc Jacobs S/S 2010

Edited by

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Marc By Marc Jacobs S/S 2010 RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Marc By Marc Jacobs S/S 2010 It’s getting to the point where you don’t need to see the Marc By Marc Jacobs tag on anything anymore…you just know. The vibrant, sporty,  mix matched and almost childish pieces practically scream Jacobs’ name. But even if this collection was totally independent of Jacobs’ previous work, there is enough of a similarity to make it repetitive and almost boring. Really, just look at Marc’s Fall 2007 collection…now look at this. The times may be ‘a changin’, but please, don’t skimp on the tasteful design we know you’re capable of!

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Vera Wang S/S 2010

Edited by

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Vera Wang S/S 2010 Vera Wang had gothic glamour down to a science with her dark and intimate Spring 2010 collection. Each piece embodies this some sort of eeriness, feminine and delicate, as seen in the tulle ballerina skirts, yet gloomy and somewhat depressing, shown specifically in the engulfing, bead detailed jumpsuits. Wang went subtle on the fur this season, but used just enough on the shoulders to make enlighten the common draping seen up and down the runways this week.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: G-Star Raw Spring 2010

Edited by

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: G Star Raw Spring 2010 RUNWAY RUNDOWN: G Star Raw Spring 2010 Before we get into the fashion details, let’s set the record straight: G-Star Raw knows how to put on a fashion show. G-Star turned the Hammerstein Ballroon into a tubular vessel of white light and blaring bass. The collection, although ridden with some clever denim jumpsuits, jackets and drop-crotch jeans, reminded me of a typical, vintage teacup. Royal blue and white patterns dominated the runway, looking far more docile and innocent than past collections. But G-Star’s industrial aesthetic radiated via their expertise in raw denim, more specifically in a denim patchwork trench and several canvas and buckle vests.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Philosophy S/S 10

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Philosophy S/S 10 The words “cute” and “whimsical” are definitely ones I’d use when describing my fashion taste, but there is not a single piece of Alberta Ferretti’s adorable Philosophy Spring 2010 collection that I wouldn’t wear. With poppy sheer layers and cartoon lip decals galore, the collection is nothing but fun, flirty and fabulous. Out of any collection shown this season, Philosophy really sings “spring.”

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rodarte S/S 10

Edited by

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rodarte S/S 10 It’s safe to say that Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s Spring 2010 Rodarte collection was a stress release. They ripped, tore and destroyed to their heart’s content taking their glamorous grungy appeal and increasing it tenfold. This season was all about confidence in flaws, and isn’t it obvious with all the sloppy, yet precise, draping and unique tears? While I did appreciate a grubbier vibe from Rodarte, I was a bit distracted by the arm tattoos and felt that the collection would have spoken louder sans the body art.

SHOP MB999: Black Regime Sweater; $322

Alright boys, hear me out- I know many of you wouldn’t be caught dead in a turtle neck sweater, but you have to admit that this one is pretty cool. I really like the asymmetrical, brushed buttons as well as the chunky, waffle style knit. Keep the look simple with some tight black jeans and some black boots, and you’ve got yourself a handsome (not to mention warm) look for the fall.

WTF!?! Kate Lanphear Sits BEHIND Celebrities At G-Star Raw Spring 2010

WTF!?! Kate Lanphear Sits BEHIND Celebrities At G Star Raw Spring 2010

I just got back from the G-Star Raw Spring 2010 show, and while I should be left with impressions of the clothing, I can’t help but wonder why Kate Lanphear, style director of Elle Magazine, was seated behind celebrities Juliette Lewis, Kat Von D, Eric Balfour and Leonor Varela, let alone on the side runway (yep, that’s her in the upper left corner!) I admire Lanphear’s support of fashion, as I’ve seen her at numerous shows and throughout the tents this past week, and I feel like her influence is far more important than an actor’s or tattoo artist’s.

If I learned one thing during this season’s fashion week, it’s this: DAMN PUBLIC RELATIONS PEOPLE NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rad Hourani Spring 2010

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rad Hourani Spring 2010 RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Rad Hourani Spring 2010

Rad Hourani was one of my most anticipated shows this season, and once again, it is not one to disappoint. Notorious for his black draping, weaving and slitting, Hourani gave us a lighter, Spring version with slit compression shorts, abstract zippered jackets and a handful of silver and white accent pieces. The collection was altogether space-age, the models looking alien with their greased back hair, boxy garb and matching heels. I’m sure every fashion forward person will agree that layering is key, so how about some credit where credit is due for Mr. Hourani, giving us layers while keeping the warm weather of Spring in mind. Kudos.

SHOP OAK: Black Quilted Flannel Shirt; $230

Besides different color combinations, I find it hard to believe that plaid can be made new and interesting. Well, Oak has done it again, this time, by adding a black quilted lining inside the plaid shirt! Although the quilting will be exposed when one rolls up the sleeves, part of me wishes the shirt was completely reversed with the whole shirt done quilted!

SHOP FINSK: Black Wrapped Boot; $592

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a pair of heels I really liked, but Finsk has changed my luck! I love how the leather is layered and wrapped around the heel as well as the boot and has a treated sheen to it. With an exposed zipper and a burgundy wood heel base, I highly doubt these heels could get any more incredible!
