Kristen Johnston Gets Super-Skinny

Edited by

The last time I saw Kristen Johnston was on Sex and the City as a Courtney Love-like-Socialite who falls out of a high-rise window. I’m sure you all remember. Then about a week ago I was at the nail salon flipping through a People magazine (where I do all my heavy reading) when I saw a bony-version-of-Kristen Johnston. I couldn’t believe my eyes, the article said she lost 60 pounds because of an ulcer(?) Is ‘I’m super-thin because of an ulcer’ the new ‘I’m thin because I work-out-and-eat-healthy?’

Finally I have a photo via The Skinny from late April. And she frankly she looks healthy here, compared to the photos in People Magazine.

Dita Goes Out, I Swoon

Edited by

I love Dita Von Teese. She’s been on my radar since I saw her perform with the Pussycat Dolls (the original dance troupe, not the pop-music group) in 2001. I love her, she gives me hope for fashion. Okay enough about my girl-crush. Here she is out in London. And what more can I saw? She’s perfection!

Eva Longoria-Parker, not pregnant-just dresses like it

Ever since empire dresses and tent dresses became all the rage every celebrity has become ‘pregnant’. The gossip rags love calling every celeb who dresses in this of-the-moment-trend as knocked up. The latest celebrity to have a non-existent-bun-in-the-oven is Eva Longoria-Parker (I believe this is her 12th pregnancy in two years). She was photographed wearing an empire waisted dress over a black t-shirt, which means she is of course with child. Thankfully her stylist/celeb-personality Robert Verdi came to her rescue assuring us all she is not, by revealing some interesting facts about the stylist-client relationship:

“Eva is not pregnant! I’m not her gynecologist, but I am her stylist,” he explained. “I see her naked. I see her boobs! That’s the first place it would show, and it’s not showing!”

To recap what we’ve learned today. Stylist’s can tell many things about you, because they see you naked. And even though they are gay and don’t swing that way, they will defend your honor by telling publications that they freely see you naked. But let’s never forget that a stylist is not the same thing as a gyno. Thank you Robert Verdi!

Eva Mendes also not eating for two

I must say I don’t really get the whole empire/tent dress trend. Who wants to look pregnant if they’re not?

Another Reason SATC Isn’t Real

Edited by

Another Reason SATC Isnt Real

Since its release countless blogs and media outlets have pointed out how unrealistic Sex and the City is. As if we need someone to point this out! Well here’s another example reinforcing that Sex and the City is a work of fiction, a urban fairy-tale if you will. The website SassyBella has pointed out that the blue satin Manolo Blahnik shoes featured in the film are $945.00 dollars, $400 more than what Carrie quotes them as. I must say, I did a mental double-take when Carrie uttered that her perfect, new, something-blue Manolo’s were $525 bucks. When was the last time Manolo’s were $500 dollars? I mean the most basic Blahnik will run you at least $545 these days. Thanks to Pat Fields and her vision of Carrie Bradshaw Maonolo’s haven’t been $500 dollars since the new millennium. I guess Carrie got a discount? Unfortunately we’re all not so lucky.

But if you feel like spending your rent check on these shoes you can pre-order them on Neiman Marcus‘ website. But don’t expect them to ship till October. Expensive things comes to those who wait.

Nylon Outtakes

Edited by

Several weeks ago I posted a heads up about Scarlett Johansson in Nylon magazine’s annual Music Issue, because she is a ‘musician’ now. Anyway Nylon just posted outtakes from that photoshoot. I don’t know why they didn’t use these takes because they are way better. But I’m not the the editor. Here are the highlights:

M.I.A. in Day-Glo

Edited by

What I love about M.I.A. is she wears things that no one in their right mind would wear, except for maybe Corey Kennedy. But unlike our ‘favorite’ Cobrasnaker M.I.A. makes it work. The early 90′s never looked so good. Here she is performing at MOMA Garden Party las night.

T BAR STILETTOT Strap Heel

My current obsessions are these T-strap high heels from Alloy. The T-bar is nice alternative to to the standard pump. It provides a nice detailing that has a retro feel to it. And with a 4-inch heel it gives you that extra height that we all need. And at $30 dollars the price is right.

Anatomy of a Look: Rumer Willis

Edited by

Welcome to a new feature on Style Indie called Anatomy of a Look.

This feature is reserved for those who rock a certain look, but fall several steps short of chic. I will dissect the look like it’s 9th grade science and then show how the outfit could work. Everyone has a style, however most times it just doesn’t work out.

For our inaugural edition we have Rumer Willis trying to rock the art-girl look.

Anatomy of a Look: Rumer Willis

The ‘art-girl’ look is hard to pull off because most people think you can just put what whatever you want together as an outfit and it’s artsy. Oh no! The truly chic ‘art girl’ knows it’s a delicate balance between quirkiness and polish. It’s so easy to look like Bjork’s twin when trying to rock this look.

Where to start? See the analysis, art-girl icons, and the look done right under the cut

Coppola Family Affair for New LV Ads

Coppola Family Affair for New LV Ads

Francis and Sofia kicking it in Napa for the new “Life-is-great-because-we’re-rich-and-have-LV-luggage” Louis Vuitton Ads

Over the last couple of seasons Louis Vuitton has taken an interesting direction with their ad campaigns…by putting interesting public figures in their ads. Instead of putting the hottest celeb of the moment like a Shia Labeouf or a Eva Longoria, they decided to feature people like Andre Agassi and Catherine Deneuve.

Antoine Arnaud, son of Bernard Arnaud, chief executive of LVMH said of the new direction: “We needed something special to remind people about the romance of travel. People said we were crazy to even contemplate Gorbachev or Clinton, but eventually Gorbachev said if we could put him in with the Berlin Wall we were on…”

Well get ready for the next set of ads with none other than Oscar-winning father-daughter Francis Ford and Sofia Coppola. This isn’t the first time Sofia has been featured in an ad for her buddy Marc Jacobs. You can still find her as the face of Marc Jacobs orginal fragence in magazines.

Coppola Family Affair for New LV Ads

The normally camera-shy and super ‘indie’ Coppola explained to the Times why she would do something so corporate: “I liked the ad Annie shot with Keith Richards. It was flattering to be asked. Plus I’ve known Marc Jacobs since I was 18. We had mutual friends and started hanging out together. I remember asking my mom to take me to see Perry Ellis when he was designing there. I still have a box of clothes from that grunge collection somewhere. It’s great to work with Annie – she did a good portfolio on the set of Marie Antoinette. She just selects one picture and then shows it to you. But I think that’s good. My dad and I were both like, yeah, whatever you want, this is your shoot. On your own set you want it exactly your own way, but we can get with someone else’s vision too.”

Beach Chic-Part Duex

Edited by

Gap has kind of been hit and miss over the last decade, but it seems to be getting cooler thanks to new creative director Patrick Robinson. I’m currently obsessed with this retro-beach chic look. It’s so 1950′s with the polka-dots. It’s a great outfit for the beach or a night out afterwards. All you have to do is pair this with a high waisted skirt and you’ve got an evening look. And the best part is it’s only 42 bucks!

Beach Chic Part Duex Women: Essential keyhole one-piece – red w/ white dots

Two flattering swimsuits for the price of one: Wear it as a halter or strapless. Either way, you’re sure to look stylish in this great one-piece and with so many vibrant colors to choose from, you can’t go wrong. – Quick-drying comfortable stretch nylon. Self-tie string can be tied at neck or at gathered keyhole-detailed center front, bandeau-styling, high-cut leg for an elongated look.
