Caitlin Mociun at Jumelle

Edited by

I just received an email from one of my favorite boutiques in Williamsburg Jumelle. Jumelle has everything from established designers like Sonia Rykiel to new designers like Caitlin Mociun, who’s new summer collection they just received.

Here’s a little info on the collection

Each season Brooklyn-based wondergal Caitlin Mociun excites us with her whimsical, artistic and unique hand-drawn designs. She finds inspiration in anything and everything – old family photos, her global travels, her frisky cat Judas, the artwork of Kiki Smith and Henry Darger and Native American textiles. The Mociun summer collection includes tie-dye (our favorite camp activity), mineral and doily prints and a natural print made from potatoes.

You can find Mociun’s collection as well as many others on Jumelle’s website or stop by their store at 148 Bedford Avenue.

Another Celebrity, Another Fashion Line

Another Celebrity, Another Fashion Line

Kristin Davis will design a line of sportswear for southern retailer Belk. Yeah I’ve never heard of them either.

She said of her upcoming collection: “[The line] really started in my closet, which for me is more exciting than going shopping and just seeing what already is available, I have these classic pieces I’ve have for six, 10 years that I hold onto.”

So if you live in the South and like fashion from six to ten years ago, you’re in luck beacuse Kritistin Davis is designing a line just for you.

The collection will make its debut in August, and will retail for $30 to $240. Expect  sportswear, activewear, sleepwear, handbags, jewelry, belts and footwear. And if everything sells well Davis will design even more categories for spring.

Expect Charlotte York-esque feminine A-line skirts, dresses, and blouses in size 2 to 14.

Is this really necessary? I don’t get it. She has a job, she works on a constant basis. Celebrities start designing clothing labels when they have exhausted all other options.

Dov Gets Sued…Again

Dov Gets Sued...Again

Another day, another Dov Charney lawsuit from a female employee.

If he isn’t designing 1970′s inspired, fair-trade cotton clothing, then he’s running around the office making his employees feel uncomfortable, if he’s accomplished that for the day then he’s most likely sexual harassing the female population of his employees.

This time it’s Jeneleen Floyd, who worked at the company for three years-shouldn’t she get some kind of compensation for surviving that long?

You can find the complaint she filed with the courts here

But here’s are the highlights:

11. Defendant Charney repeatedly shouted to Plaintiff that she should be f**king scared” and that if she did not do what he asked, plaintiff needed to resign. Defendant Charney made several references to an interview he had conducted with Jane magazine wherein he had received oral sex from an employee during the course of the interview and the reporter had engaged in masturbation. Defendant Charney sat down and ordered Plaintiff to “pretend to masturbate.”

12. Plaintiff continued in a state of shock and terror and refused to respond in any manner to Defendant’s demands. In addition Plaintiff was extremely embarrassed and humiliated at being sexually objectified in the presence of her co-workers, including her immediate supervisor, Matthew Swenson.

13. After an extended pause waiting for Plaintiff to respond to his command, and realizing that she had no intentions of complying, Defendant Charney then ordered Mr. Swenson to “pretend to masturbate.” As Mr. Swenson complied with his Defendant Charney’s instruction, Defendant Charney moved next to him and simulated an oral sex act with him.

Dov Gets Sued...Again

At this point don’t you know what you’re getting yourself into when you decided to work at American Apparel? What does that make, four or five lawsuits from female employees in the last four years? I don’t have any illusion that this lawsuit, just like the previous lawsuits, will stop Charney. See behavior like this not only cements the reputation of American Apparel as edgy, but cements Charney’s legend as the Larry Flynt of fashion. Which I’m sure he would take as a compliment.

Siriano doing Whoopi for the Tony’s

Edited by

It looks like  Christian Siriano may be the first Project Runway winner to have a shelf-life beyond his alloted 15 minutes. Siriano just hosted the pre-show for MTV Movie Awards, and was actually funny, and now he will be designing Whoopi Goldberg’s outfit for the Tony’s.

“It’s going to be a ruffled extravaganza, She’s going to be wearing a skinny pant, fabulous heels for days, a great jacket and a fabulous coat-cap kind of thing.”

Siriano says he showed Whoopi about 10 sketches: “She liked, of course, the most outrageous,” he said. “I tried to do something more tame, but she wanted something more crazy.”

He added that: “It’s going to take a while, I have only like a couple of weeks. So it’s going to be balls to the walls and working all night.”

So if at the Tony’s you see Whoopi Goldberg in a half-ruffled extravaganza, you’ll know why.

That outfit sounds great and all but he’s talking about this Whoopi Goldberg right?

Models Making Music

Models Making Music

“All we need to do is get Sean [Lennon] and Patti in the same town and make sure Pete’s not in prison and we can get rolling”

-joked Irina Lazareanu

Yes Irina Lazareanu is releasing an album, with the help of her celebrity pals. Although it’s not that odd because she was somewhat of a musician or at least muse to one Pete Doherty before her modeling career blew up.  Lazareanu said at the party celebrating the release of the Purple Anthology at Collette in Paris that the album would be released in September. In case you didn’t know that ‘Patti’ would be Patti Smith and ‘Pete’ is of course Pete “crack pipe’ Doherty and Sean Lennon is helping too somehow. Sure why not? What’s the point of having fab celebrity friends if you can’t use them for your benefit?!

All I can I say is I hope that this goes over better than ScarJo’s music attempt.

MTV Movie Award Wrap Up

Edited by

How lame were the MTV Movie Awards last night? It was awkward like a Junior High Dance. But I wasn’t watching it for the lame jokes, I was watching it for the bad fashion. The MTV Movie Awards are one of those rarified red carpet events where nobody knows what to wear. What is the dress code for one of these things? Dressy? Causual? That’s why you will find people dressed in ballgowns as well as jeans. Deliciously awkward. I noticed three key trends at the award show when it came to fashion-celebs either dressed like they were going to Prom, going to a Biker rally, or like Porn star.

Prom Chic:

Fashion Legend Dead

Edited by

Sad news to start off Monday

Fashion Legend Dead

Yves Saint Laurent died yesterday at the age of 71.

The fashion legend was considered one of the greatest designers of the 20th century. He got his start at the age of 22, reinventing the Christian Dior label, decades before it was considered cool to do so (Tom for Gucci, Marc for Louis, etc, etc). He started his own label in 1962 after suffering a nervous breakdown. His designs came to define the 1970′s. The Yves Saint Laurent label was synonymous for cutting edge fashion. He designed Yves Saint Laurent till 2002, when Tom Ford and the Gucci Group bought the company from him. It was said that Laurent was incredibly bitter about the buyout and become increasingly reclusive in his final years. He died in his home in Paris.

Fashion-lovers have a lot to thank Yves for, let’s take some time to review

1. Everything that is old, is new again

Refercing past decades in present collections, yeah Yves was doing that when Marc Jacobs was still in diapers. He came under fire for his 1971 collection which was inspired by 1940′s fashion. Something that is second nature in fashion today.

2. Ready to Wear

Do you enjoy Fashion Week? Laurent was one of the first big designers to popularize ready to wear lines, as a way to democratize fashion. In 1966, he created the Rive Gauche fashion line and boutique.

3. Black Models

That’s right folks, Yves Saint Laurent was the first designer to put a black model on the runway.

4. Decadence in Fashion

Blow and skinny models did not always go hand in hand when it came to fashion. Thanks to Yves Saint Laurent and his partying buddy Karl Lagerfeld they made fashion the excessive decadent field we know today. Have you read the The Beautiful Fall? You would think it was Ancient Rome. Or Lindsey Lohan at an Oscar party

There’s only Karl and Giorgio Armani left now! Yves’ dead, Valentino retried.

Christian Siriano: Sorry Tranny-Messes

Edited by

Christian Siriano: Sorry Tranny Messes

Christian Siriano has apologized to the gays for comparing ‘drag queens and trannies’ in the gay world to ‘white trash and trailer parks’ in the straight world. In the new Time Out Magazine, Siriano was featured on a GLBT panel about Gay Pride in 2008. Siriano said: “If you think of heterosexuals, they have white-trash women and trailer parks, and we have drag queens and trannies.”

Evidently this comparison did not sit well with his ‘tranny mess’ fans. Today Siriano released a statement to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD): “I mean no disrespect to the transgender population and I never will. Some of my close friends happen to be transgender and I think they are some of the most inspiring people in my life…I completely support the fabulousness and amazing fashion inspiration that most transgender people provide.” He added that “I wish that my words were not taken in that way. When I was speaking, some comments that I made were not used in the article.”

I guess GLADD doesn’t have a problem with Siriano popularizing the term “hot-tranny-mess” to straight folks from Middle America, but comparing the gay community to white trash…..that’s just too far…
