Fashion Indie Goes to the Movies

Edited by

There is only one reason I could be writing a post at 3 am-I just saw the Sex and the City movie. Yes, I know we have all written posts about our hate for this movie…but…it’s fashion, when we trash something it means were totally into it.

The evening began something like this-I recieved a call from resident editor Rebecca Alexander who informed me that a THIRD midnight screening had been added to their local Brooklyn theater and tickets were going fast and was I in? I replied something to the affect of ‘Okay, but we need to get trashed before i see some middle-aged boobies’ Well two pitchers of mango-margaritas later and we were off to the theater….

I knew the rest of the night would become hazy to me, so I decided to take photographic evidence with my handy Iphone

Daniel and I did an unofficial poll while waiting in line for snackage, of how many men were dragged by their girlfriends. This is one of the unlucky souls, and he wasn’t even sure if he was getting laid at the end of the night. Poor bastard. I bet he’s in credit card debt from buying his girlfriend Manolo’s.

Fashion Indie Goes to the Movies

Since this is work for us we decided to put this on the new Fashion Indie corporate card!

Me with my Bunch-a-Crunch…I will use the response I gave to Daniel after he took this photo “Oh my god-I look like Christian Bale from Rescue Dawn!”

Shortly after this photo was taken the man in the elevator remarked “Yeah you motherfuckers sure are drunk.” To which we replied “Yes and you’re the dumbass who is going to sit through this movie sober….” He had no response.

Some Fashion Indie love from our lovebirds…..

And now for the movie: Yes the girls are four years older….we get it, but for some reason this movie reminded me of having a conversation with my mother. I kept expecting at least one of the them to say “In my day…..”

Carrie post-wedding jilt. Here’s a treat for you viewers, you get a whole 30 minutes with no Carrie puns. Which picks up again when Carrie realizes that she ‘let the wedding get bigger then Big.’ Get it because she calls him Big…see Carrie’s cleaver like that.

The girls at Fashion Week. For a scene that makes no sense and didn’t need to be added to the film. Expect that Mercedes Benz gave them money to be in the movie. That still doesn’t explain why the girls were viewing a Vivienne Westwood show in New York

To conclude: That’s all the photos you’re going to get, because I actually got into the movie. Everyone here at the Fashion Indie team enjoyed the film, mostly because we were expecting Gigli. If you have no expectations for this film then you will enjoy it. Other than that just buy the boxed set DVD, it’s a better investment compared to the 100 dollar bar tab and $11 a ticket you will have to pay if you want to see it live. Trust me we did the math.

Well it’s almost 4 am now and I am finally sober…and yet I can’t get that stupid theme song out of my head.

SuperModel Me?

Edited by

We now have proof Hiedi Klum is not a supermodel….She eats, and at McDonalds! The horror! Klum was at the Micky-D’s in Germany promoting their ‘new line’ of chicken wraps. Isn’t Heidi Klum very rich and successful does she really need to promote McDonald’s? Was David Hasselhoff too busy?

Morning Sex

Morning Sex

I thought I would post these photos of SJP at the New York Sex and the City Premiere as a morning treat for all our FI readers. SJP chose a lovely Nina Ricci dress to wear to what seems like the 15th premiere for this movie.

Morning Sex

Here is Irina Kulikova wearing the dress on the runway for the Spring/Summer Nina Ricci collection. Olivier Theyskens, the sexual ambiguous fashion designer of Nina Ricci, described the collection as: “It was a group of girls you’d see on the street in the early morning coming from a ball” Maybe it’s a European thing, but has anyone seen a girl do a walk of shame in a $15,000 handmade gown? Guess it’s what makes us Americans different from those Euros

ADDICT: Valentino

I must say I am currently obsessed with the new Valentino ads that have been popping up in magazines for the last few months. They were shot by the ubiquitous photography duo Inez and Vindooh. This campaign, which is the last designed by Senor Valentino himself, stars Raquel Zimmerman, Anja Rubik, and Shalom Harlow in a dinner party hosted by David Lynch. I love the creepy lighting, the odd poses, and the fact that in most of the photos you can’t see their faces. How avante!

Urban Trying to be Indie…..

Urban Trying to be Indie.....

Urban Outfitters has contracted indie-designer Geren Ford to design a range of  lower priced pieces to be featured online and in selected stores.

Apparently this is the first in many collaborations with indie-designers. Starting this month UO will be going the Target route and having designers create lower-priced lines of their own collections.

Geren Ford’s Hawks collection is filled with vintage inspired pieces-are there any other kind these days? It has the perfect 1994 sundress and 1975 high-waisted short for those long summer days.

Wow Urban! First Cobrasnake, now indie designers….What’s next? Are you going to ask us to blog for you?

Fashion Fringe in London

Edited by

Fashion Fringe in London

Fashion Fringe, the UK-based fashion initiative established by Colin McDowell and IMG, has found itself a new home in Covent Garden, the Italian-style piazza in London’s West End best known for its restaurants, bars, boutiques, theatres and the Royal Opera House.

“Fashion Fringe is about modern London and all its diversities, but it takes place in one of the most historic cities in the world,” said McDowell. “I am very happy that we are able to show in such an iconic space as Covent Garden, which is known throughout the world for its superb Georgian architecture and ongoing program of entertainment and events.”

The three-year collaboration with Fashion Fringe will allow the program, which supports emerging British fashion design talent, a semi-permanent venue to stage its annual nationwide search for fashion talent. The new space will host the selection process, judging, and mentoring program, as well as the final runway show in September. To date, the program has launched six successful new designer labels on the London fashion scene over the past four years.

Most recently, Donatella Versace joined Fashion Fringe as honorary chairperson for the next two years. She will work in conjunction with the Fashion Fringe International advisory committee made up of fashion heavyweights like Alexander McQueen, Anna Wintour, Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano, Stuart Rose, and Marc Jacobs.

Marc! Is that you?!

Edited by

Marc! Is that you?!

Another day another Marc Jacobs post. Jacobs was not celebrating Memorial Day yesterday, but rather gave a talk to students at London’s Central Saint Martins College. And from the sound of it there were glimmers of old Marc, the Marc we all love-not the new muscley, nudist, whoremongering Jacobs.

Here are the highlights:

The battle between corporate and creative: “I don’t understand corporate people — I always say the design team’s on the second floor and the corporate people are on the fifth floor, and it might as well be the distance between here and Mars,” said Jacobs, relating the difficulties of getting his Stephen Sprouse monogram collection for Louis Vuitton in spring 2001 into production, after Vuitton’s management team at the time was reluctant to endorse the reworked logo. “The press reaction to all that graffiti was so amazing…[but] they bitched and moaned, [saying] ‘we’re not going to do it’. I just couldn’t believe it…at the time, that’s how narrow minded they were…[but] $300 million later, they think it’s a good idea!” (Jacobs diplomatically added that those detractors no longer work at Vuitton.)

On Tom Ford (who Jacobs hired to design the denim line Perry Ellis America): “Tom was a different person then…Tom was this very, very sort of haughty, tasteful person, very Waspy…or that’s what he was affecting at that moment. I thought it would be great to do a jean line with someone who has a very sophisticated mind.”

On Creativity: “It’s a daily, weekly, monthly evaluation of whims, I don’t do it all — there are hundreds of talented people who I trust, and who love what we do.”

Daily Dose of Bad Fashion

Edited by

Here’s a favorite photo of mine from the recently wrapped Cannes Film Festival. Although by looking at this photo it looks more like it’s someone’s prom photo from the 80′s. Evidently, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, and Samantha Morton all forgot that this was one  the most glamorous events of year and decided to wear the dowdiest outfits they could get their hands on it. See, this is what happens when you don’t use a stylist!

Rich Bitches Prefer ‘Lucky’ Mag

Rich Bitches Prefer Lucky Mag

Anna Wintour cannot be happy about this!

According to a poll released yesterday readers of Lucky Magazine have the highest average income out of all the fashion magazines. Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar eat your heart out! Lucky is that magazine about all things shopping related and the pursuit for the perfect outfit-they even have those convenient little stickers in the front: YES! MAYBE! Lucky readers earn a median median HHI of $82,430, while the median Vogue reader earns considerably less at $66,191.

It turns out women who buy clothing would actually like to see said clothing featured in the magazine they have subscribed to. I guess women like myself have grown tired of stories about socialites and their 200,000 wedding dresses and 200 pages of advertisements. Lucky Magazine doesn’t feature an article longer than a paragraph-exactly a fashion readers attention-span.

Iman: A Model, Not a Plaything

Iman: A Model, Not a Plaything

Iman recently talked to NYMag about her upcoming Italian Vogue cover  “I still don’t like us (black models) to be a caricature,” she told them at the American Image Awards this week. “They’ll think, ‘Okay, we did it.’ And then they’re done with it, and we’ll have to wait till next year.” She added that in 2007 black models were “nonexistent” and she felt the fashion and beauty industries are out of touch. “When you see commercials and movies and every other form of art in terms of entertainment, you never have this conversation,” she said. “So it is so outdated.” She continued, “I can only say that one of the reasons is that models have never had unions, so there is no one to say, ‘This isn’t right.’

Yeah that’s what models need a union. First order of business uniform model size -2.
