Videography: Janet Jackson

Edited by

Videography charts an artist’s fashion evolution through their music videos. First up, her name’s not Baby, it’s Janet. Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty. Janet had a string of classic hits and equally classic videos throughout the 80s, 90s and early 00s before being sidetracked by Nipplegate. But not even the sun medallion seen round the world could keep the youngest member of the Jackson clan down and out for too long. Over the past 30 years, Janet has made an indelible impact on the pop culture landscape through her genre-bending music, groundbreaking videos and cutting-edge style.

Fashion Star‘s Nicole Richie is getting her designs into Macy’s and she didn’t even have to compete for it. Macy’s is one of the retailers that will ideally carry winning designs by contestants on that trainwreck of a reality show, but Richie bypassed the televised bidding process and her capsule collection hits Macy’s stores come mid-September.

Kanye West Does Not Like Your Style, Will Openly Tweet About It

Edited by

Kanye West was just rollin’ through the nabes and decided something needed to be said about the proliferation of khaki cargo shorts and “big ass striped scarves.” Taking to his favored medium for unprovoked rantings and ravings – the Twitter — the fashion maven and occasional rapper provided a roundup of all the uninspired style offending his delicate nature. Presumably he was being driven since tweeting while driving is sending a bad message to the kids when all Kanye wants to do is teach. Teach ‘em how to get on their “snob.”

10 Fashion Feats and Fails at the Met Costume Institute Gala

Edited by

The Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s annual Costume Institute Gala is tirelessly referred to as the Oscars of fashion and it certainly ranks as the industry’s glitziest and most glamorous night.  But unlike the Oscars red carpet, where actresses willfully play it safe for fear of a career-defining performance on the worst dressed list, at the Met Gala the balls are to the haute couture wall. This is Fashion with a capital effin’ F. Sometimes the results are truly stunning and other times they’re…how can I put this gently…god-awful. Let’s take a look back at the Met Gala’s greatest hits and misses.

WATCH: Kanye West’s Latest Fashion Foray, “Lost in the World” Music Video Directed by Ruth Hogben

Edited by

Kanye West has teamed up with Webby Award winning SHOWstudio and acclaimed fashion filmmaker Ruth Hogben for his new music video, “Lost in the World.”  Described as breaking “the mould of popular rap aesthetics,” the clip stars West — his face partially or entirely obscured for the duration — and six dancers matching the song’s intensity step for step and writhe for writhe. Featuring Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, “Lost in the World” is Yeezy’s fifth single from the Grammy-winning My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Hogben’s film for Gareth Pugh‘s spring 2012 collection was recently nominated in the fashion category at the Design of the Year Awards. All those accolades add up to a brilliant piece that not only “breaks the mould” of the traditional rap video but dances on its shattered remains. Check it out after the jump.

Tan Mom Tells It Like It Is…or Something, Manish Arora Exits Paco Rabanne and Beyonce’s a Literary Prize-Winner

Edited by

- When you exit through the gift shop of The Met‘s “Impossible Conversations” exhibit, you’ll find surreal (and severely overpriced) souvenirs like a lips pin and a Prada flame shoe ornament. [Met Museum]

Tan Mom may well be the best thing to come out of New Jersey since…well, my mind’s gone blank on that front. While discretely hiding the box of Franzia in her handbag, Patricia Krentcil lashed out at those who accused her of taking her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning salon, saying that “they’re jealous, they’re fat and they’re ugly.” [Jezebel]
