style="center;">

So, why fishing? Supposedly Coco Chanel was a big fan salmon fishing in Norway (which you have to do in saltwater, so you can’t flyfish, meaning the flies provided in the kit can’t be used for Coco’s fave pasttime, but that’s another story). Something tells me she didn’t bait her own hooks and that the messier, smellier side of fishing was never explained to those haute folks on the design team at Chanel. Not only will that quilted lambskin stink after a few fishing expeditions, but it sure isn’t going to hold up well to water (flyfishing is best done in the early morning, when there is generally a lot of moisture in the air. And you stand in the water, wearing waders, which are ridiculously un-fashionable). My final, enormous problem with this exorbitantly expensive piece of sporting vanity is that there are different types of flies for each fish, and while I’m not an expert, something tells me that a trout isn’t going to be attracted to the Chanel logo on the flies in the same way that Upper East Side princesses are. In the unlikely event that a fashionable fish is paddling around out there, it will probably eat the lure and escape with it, as fish are often wont to do.

P.S. Having grown up in a coastal area with lots of fishermen, it’s pratically di rigeur that you toss back a few beers, preferably something that comes in the always classy 30-rack. Natty Light and Chanel? It’s a match made in heaven …

Style Icons: Little Lady, Big Dress

GIRLS

Style Icons
<guid

It makes a kind of sense, then, that this would translate well to the fashion world; we started off with the tame ballet flat, modeled upon the ballet slipper, but now certain designers are designing footware that bear an increasingly strong resemblance to pointe shoes (and this is to say nothing of ankle-ribbons). Take note of the super blunt, squared-off toes (though I’d imagine they are less painful than the dance version):

<a

Especially because there is always the temptation to bring it up to the next level, which often results in huge missteps (though to be fair, fashion would be a boring, bland place without risk-takers). In this case, chanteuse Rihanna wears some over-the-top Balenciaga gladiators and, well, can’t quite swing it. This has nothing to do with her and her ability to pull off edgy fashion. Fact of the matter is, the Balenciaga label does not a sartorial success make. Now if there was an ankle-high version I could certainly jump on the bandwagon, but as these stand right now … these are channelling too much gladiator, not enough glam.

<a

Agnes makes an excellent point when she says “Men look very sexy dressed in 18th-century fashion!” Case and point, take a look at these stars below. While certainly handsome in modern-day garb, there’s just something a little bit hotter about the outfits from another era. Note: this does not necessarily provide carte blanche to go trawling for men at a) Medieval Times or b) renaissance fairs.
<p

Current trends of ethnic prints and ombre fabrics will persevere as well, in addition to the florals that are expected to be the new hotness for this fall.

As always, the tailoring is meticulous and Khan consistently strikes the perfect balance between bold fabrics (in both color and pattern) and the intricate detail work that is something of a signature. Perhaps more so than any other Resort collection I’ve seen within the past few seasons, each look immediately makes me think of a fabulous event in an exotic locale where it could be worn (and, I can dream that it would be worn by me). This year’s designers included Erickson Beamon, Hussein Chalayan, Ana de Costa, Christopher Kane, Rodrigo Otazu, Marios Schwab and Pippa Small, among others. The cohesive element is the crystals themselves, so each designer was able to run wild with their imaginations resulting in looks that are at turns ethereal, fantastical, gothic … you name it, it was done. Although the disparate looks don’t result in the kind of clearly unified collection that a Couture or RTW strives for, it makes things just a bit more visually interesting for the viewer. style="text-align: left;">Sometimes, the price of fashion drives me nuts. Now, there are some beautifully detailed pieces out there that warrant the heftier price tag, simply to cover the cost of labor (3.1 Phillip Lim, Nicholas K and others). However the recent trend in “ethnic” prints and jewelry has resulted in inflated prices for certain items whose less expensive incarnations can be found at less than 1/3 of the price, if you’re willing to search for them (hitting up neighborhoods like Curry Hill and Little India in Manhattan is a good idea). Or if you’re really lucky, fly straight to India itself with a few empty duffles (I promise you, it’s worth it).
<p

Of … wait for it … “designer” scrubs (because guys, don’t forget, she’s a doctor). Matthew “Bongos” McConaughey is now the last thing on my mind, because I’ve got it in for KH now due to several reasons.

One, Izzie really started to annoy me on the last season of Grey’s and two, because of her recent bitchy comments about her withdrawal from the Emmy nomination. Katherine, I’d like to point out that you piss me off because the writers of your show did such a perfect job of turning you into a whiney brat– they deserve an Emmy for that alone.

Anyway, gleefully awful photos of Katherine in all of her scrubby glory below:
the Moment thinks that “the prep-inspired look of summers past — lace-up leather oxfords with no socks — just seems a bit too polished, pulled together and considered” for this summer. I don’t really agree or disagree on this one, but I do happen to like his footwear alternative—the Clarks sand suede desert boot. Granted, he’s speaking to the guys here, but I can’t help thinking about how well these little suede booties would look on us ladies, whether we pair them with light-as-air dresses, cotton voile skirts, or long and lean shorts with ultra-femme tops.<br

This means that my hair is pulled back a lot of the time into a messy bun (because a ponytail in all its fluff will be wider than my head). To keep this from looking blah, I wear headbands—a lot. They have the added benefit of tamping down stray curls that have developed lives of their own. Preppy they may be, but I love J.Crew plastic headbands for their simplicity and go-with-everythingness (just pare down other preppy elements of your outfit).
<p

For face: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in SPF 30. Lightweight and evens out skin tone.

2. For everywhere: Dr. Hauschka – This stuff is a bit heavy, but it works (especially for us lily-pale folks) and is 100% organic.

If you do get burned, put on only pure aloe vera for the next 72 hours—any lotions, creams etc will keep the heat in your skin and make the burn worse. The base layer should have a a closer fit (and even a longer hem) than the dress/tunic you will wear over it; the top layer should be short and sweet and fit a little bit loosely. Try experimenting with different sleeve lengths depending on the season (ie long-sleeve base layer, half-sleeve top layer during winter, cap-sleeve and sleeveless combo for the summer). To prevent the outfit from looking too bulky, cinch a belt underneath your bustline or hang low on your waist to build a silhouette. If you’re so inclined, pair with a long necklace or some statement-making earrings.

<a
