In the September 2009 issue of Marie Claire, Alexa Chung models some casual looks that are great for fall.  The styling is young-looking without being stuffed with trends; Alexa rocks her trademark tomboy style in Alexander Wang, Wren, Stella McCartney, and Luella.

She also names some of her essential basics for fall, including Topshop skinny jeans, American Apparel minis, and pretty much anything H&M.

The punk-inspired styling is nothing new, but the Catherine McNeil’s spread in Numéro #105 (August 2009) is gorgeous nonetheless.

The Greg Kadel-shot editorial, “Just for One Day,” is heavy on studs, shoulders, and black-and-white.

The cover might not do much for you, but Maryna Linchuk’s spread in the July 2009 issue of Numero Korea is a bit steamier. Shot by Sebastian Kim, Maryna performs a slow striptease for the camera, and flaunts sexy separates along the way: thigh-high lace-up boots, fur coats, a curtain, and finally nothing but a handbag.

Jacques Dequeker shot Isabeli Fontana for a big spread in the May 2009 issue of L’Officiel Brasil. Though titled “Dominatrix,” the spread is a lot broader than black leather and bondage accessories. Instead, it’s part 80′s supermodel, part Hitchcock, and a perfect mix of tough and pretty.

Just in time for No Doubt’s comeback tour, Gwen Stefani covers the July 2009 issue of ELLE.

Her Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 outfit doesn’t go so well with the silver text. But I’m sure Gwen got styled wonderfully for her spread, in which she wears looks from Alexander McQueen, Rodarte, and Marc Jacobs.

Richard Kern’s retrospective of photography 1980-2009 opens tonight at Rental Gallery.  You’ve probably seen his spreads in Dazed & Confused and Vice.

Cintia Dicker is the covergirl for the Summer 2009 issue of CITY Magazine.  This Issue #64 marks a new era for the New York mag, which is now, according to their site, “bigger…a new look and feel. Yes, it’s sexy as hell.”

Shot in Brooklyn by Zack Gold, Cintia wears Stella McCartney and, um, fangs — presumably to take “a new bite” out of that big apple.

In the editorial “Maintenant, Encore,” featured in issue #2 of Tush magazine, model Iris Strubegger sports some vintage looks from Thierry Mugler.  She wears futuristic fashion perfectly for photographer Markus Pritzi — from pierced shirts to detailed leather, all complemented by slick, sculpted hair.

The redhead-playing-with-fire theme isn’t terribly original, but Karen Elson still looks, um, hot on the June/July 2009 issue of Numéro.

Issue #104, titled “Fever,” is kind of a stand-out photo for the spring/summer season, though, when imagery is usually a lot cleaner and lighter.

Brooklyn-based designer Mary Meyer earned a degree in painting from the California College of the Arts, but also explored printmaking, weaving, dying, welding and woodwork. She held on to that love for working with textiles and started out custom-printing tees and dresses. Her clothing is now kinda-cute, kinda-streetwear, many with a giant single print. Her pieces, many of them oversized, have simple shapes that make for breezy summer wear.

I see a very mild Native American influence in the logos of Mary Meyer’s Spring 2009 collection, but the overall style of the line of harem pants and “biggie” tees is like a toned-down M.I.A. or Karen O.

Coco Rocha has left behind her redhead days (for now).  According to a new photo on her blog, Coco has gone black.  Her face is the kind of blank model palette that’s perfect for pulling off just about any look.  I’d really like to see her as a platinum blond next.  

And I’m trying to ignore the “curtains-matching-the-drapes” questions in the blog post’s comments.

The Omelle shoe collection for Fall/Winter 2009 has a neutral palette, which is kind of boring for Fall, but sort of recalls the Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

The interesting parts are the elements not often found in footwear, like pockets, buttons, and folds. The collection also draws on a variety of materials (showcasing designer Nicole LaFave’s background in knitwear), including cabled knits, merino wool, felted fabric, suede, and patent leather.

The F/W 2009 line is available in stores and online in August/September.

Miranda Kerr does her best eco-conscious Lady Godiva for the latest issue of Australian Rolling Stone.

The Sydney-born model covers the “Green Issue” to promote her partnership with the Australian Koala Foundation’s “No Tree, No Me” campaign.  

I’m itchy just thinking about standing in the woods naked, but Miranda looks perfectly comfortable.   Meanwhile, American Rolling Stone gets Lady Gaga in bubbles instead of chains.  Sigh.

I don’t know what’s more porny — Jesus Luz having his own name tattooed on his back, L’Officiel Hommes calling his spread “Ray of Light,” after the Madonna hit, or the model himself, wiggling around for the camera and contributing very little to the world of modeling.

In any case, someone up there likes him and gave him the cover for issue #16 of the French mag.  He should really get it over with and just resign himself to a life of underwear modeling.

Apparently Pink recently got a little annoyed by Kanye’s affinity for wearing fur.  She sat near him at the Stella McCartney show in January, and noted…

Hm. Would you wear some Louis Vuitton logo-embossed Kanye skin? How overpriced would that be?

The NY Post is reporting — according to one of those great, anonymous, yet somehow reliable sources — that during a recent photoshoot for ELLE, Britney Spears made quite an impression on her stylist.

“They dressed her in all these beautiful couture clothes — and, well, let’s just say she forgot what time of the month it was. It wasn’t pretty.”

For the June/July 2009 issue of Paris Vogue, Anja Rubik and Natasha Poly are on the move in “A Toutes Jambes,” a sexy, whimsical editorial with lots of velocity.

Styled by Emmanuelle Alt and shot by Terry Richardson, the bright spread showcases sheer patterned legwear.

Anja Rubik also takes the cover of the issue.

Sasha Pivovarova is really churning out the Chanel ads! Following her campaign for the S/S 2009 collection (including eyewear), Sasha P. posed for Karl Lagerfeld himself in the Pre-Fall 2009 collection, also called the Paris-Moscow collection. She’s actually still able to stand out from amidst all the elements of dark, Old World luxury.

This spread is a couple months old, but still gorgeous. The Greg Kadel-shot spread for the April 2009 issue of Numero is dark yet luminous. “Lady Lafayette” is a Spring spread, but the color palette draws on much richer colors to complement the pale skin and angular features of Patti-Smith-lookalike Jamie Bochert.

What year is it? Winona Ryder appears to be attempting a comeback, and has landed the July 2009 issue of ELLE UK.

Matthias Vriens McGrath photographed her in a D&G corset and black nails.  The cover is bright, pretty straight-forwardly Spring, and Winona is still looking good!  Can’t wait to see how they styled her editorial.

Chloe Sevigny posed for an under-the-radar, but great editorial in the June 2009 issue of ELLE (Megan Fox cover).

While we’re all tired of reading that the secret to great style is mixing high and low, I always like seeing it in action, especially when Kate Lanphear is doing the styling.

Lanphear draws on a tamed-down ’80s supermodel aesthetic – in the Carrie-Bradshaw-wears-a-big-blazer-as-a-dress kind of way, and luckily not in a magenta spandex kind of way.  

Keeping the looks true to Chloe’s personal image, the spread mixes basics from American Apparel, The Gap, and Express, with pieces from Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim.  Lanphear, typically heavy into accessorizing, decorates Chloe with luxury belts, detailed leather boots and bags, and statement jewelry.

For “The Natural,” a spread in the May 2009 issue of Vogue Nippon, stylist Charlotte Stockdale worked within a world of juxtaposition.

Emma Summerton photographed Eniko Mihalik in wild dirty hair with structured dresses and clean tulle, and shiny bare skin against a background of white drapery and wood.

The final shots of the ad campaign aren’t out yet, but these behind-the-scenes looks at the photoshoot are.  Marlon appears to be a spoiled little prince, free to eat pink desserts and lounge around the palace half naked.  Are you into that?

WE LOVE THESE NIKE GLADIATOR SANDALS. They are so amazing and perfect for anyone looking for a summer look that’s a little more sporty than the traditional flip flop.

These new gladiators are women’s sandals, but I know a few men who could pull off this sporty look.

Art Center College student Nancy Wu designed this Nike gladiator sandal for the label’s Remixed & Recut hybrid footwear line for S/S 2009.

Some images from the Elizabeth & James Fall 2009 lookbook have started to circulate.

Reportedly inspired by Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, the images feature both the women’s and the men’s collections and the Olsens’ footwear collaboration line with Steve Madden.

The collection is full of slouchy blazers, high hemlines, fitted pants, a furry jacket, and lots of black.

It’s hard to believe that L.A.M.B., Gwen Stefani’s line with her stylist, Andrea Lieberman, and designer Zaldy Gogo,  is in its fifth year already.

But it’s still going strong, dressing Gwen for tours and music videos, and outfitting fans with clothes and accessories.   And staying true to form, L.A.M.B’s Fall/Winter 2009/2010 is unabashedly Vivienne Westwood-inspired, and in line with Gwen’s off-stage image.

Full of leather, plaid, fitted jackets, and oversize collars, the collection has just enough of a rock n roll flavor to keep it from being costumey.

Yesterday Amber Rose Twittered this photo — apparently Madonna got all up on her butt at last week’s Met gala.   I just hope this isn’t the “Before” picture of anything that went on later that night.

Super-cool Alexa Chung stars alongside Tennessee Thomas (of The Like) in the Holiday 2009 lookbook for LA-based label Wren.

The line is, of course, full of party-ready pieces (velvet skirts, silk tops, satin shorts, silver dresses).

After posing for Agent Provocateur last fall, Peaches Geldof can’t seem to keep her clothes on. British lingerie brand Ultimo has recruited her to be the face of Miss Ultimo’s Summer 2009 collection.

You probably know Ultimo for bringing us images of a very fit Mel B. last year. “Miss Ultimo” seems to be the brand’s younger-leaning division.

Peaches has already received some backlash for the photos (too many tats, too pudgy, etc.), but she said of the campaign, “I’d rather young girls were looking at a normal body like mine rather than an anorexic model.”

Diane Kruger covers the June 2009 issue of Lucky in silk Oscar de la Renta and a Chanel necklace.

Kruger shares with readers some of her favorite style go-tos — like MAC lipstick, flats, Boy by Band of Outsiders, shopping at A.P.C., and, of course, Chanel.

The June 2009 feature editorial in W Magazine is a bold choice – not just for cover girl Ginnifer Goodwin, who just seems so clean and normal to me (I mean, she was in a campaign for The Gap!), but also for the magazine itself. (Previous cover stars this year include Madonna and Brad Pitt).

Nevertheless, it’s a good move, even if just for the principle of being different.  On the belly-baring cover, Goodwin wears a Versace jacket and Balenciaga breifs.

Steven Klein shot the Big Love star for the accompanying “Not So Goodwin” spread, perhaps to try to break down some walls.  Male models, including Marlon Teixeira, also feature in the sexy editorial, whose styling still seems a little Amy Winehouse-inspired (big hair, tiny clothes, dirty faces).

Maciek Kobielski shot Diana Dondoe and Cartwright Lee for Rock & Republic‘s Spring/Summer 2009 ad campaign.

As is usual for Rock & Republic, the images are sexy without being obscene – so there aren’t a lot of clothes.  But the looks that are there are of course sleek and rock-inspired.

Luis Monteiro shot Jennifer Pugh for this beautiful spread in British magazine Tatler.

I’m not really familiar with Jennifer, and the concept is pretty simple — but she looks great in gothic-inspired styling set against a barren landscape and white buildings.
