The Professional

The Professional

British law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has hired image consultants for their staff of 2400.

They have reportedly recommended that women wear skirts with stilettos (read: no pants!) to “embrace their femininity,” and yet not wear necklaces because they can draw unwelcome eyes to the bustline.

Men are not immune to the fashion police either. Those under 5’9″ are advised not to wear double-breasted suits.  Ties hanging past the belt (more unwelcome eyes), brown shoes, and button-downs are no-nos for all men.

The course that offers these suggestions isn’t mandatory; and professional workplaces should certainly have some sort of dress code. But I’m now having all sorts of flashbacks to private school.  This would be Victoria Beckham’s dream job if it weren’t for the bustline clause.

And is it a little paranoid to think that necklaces and neckties will draw attention to private parts?

Wayfarers for the Creative or the Control Freak

Like Adidas, Vans, and even Fendi before them, Ray-Ban has jumped on the custom color bandwagon.

So if you can’t quite find a pair in your color, next year you can get the Colorize Kit: white Wayfarers, paint markers, and even little stencils.

No word yet on the price of the kit, but we know Kanye’s already pre-ordering 20.

Moments of Style: Keri Russell

For some reason I needed a couple minutes to figure out if Keri Russell’s dress here is flattering or not. A loose, sleeved dress seems pretty irregular these days for cute starlets.

But the short white drapey dress and the wavy hair make for a perfect combination of girly and grown-up.

Russell hit the red carpet in Los Angeles Thursday for the premiere of Bedtime Stories.

Fashion F*ck Ups: Ashley Olsen’s Nikes

Fashion F*ck Ups: Ashley Olsens Nikes

Ashley Olsen’s outfit here is a decent casual, cold-weather outfit. The black is on par for the celebrity lifestyle; the crocodile Fendi tote is luxurious … and then you scroll all the way down.

Walking around the city can wear out your feet, but shouldn’t Ashley, of all people, have better options than a clunky black sneaker?

I’m all for wearing sneakers if you want, but when you’re an Olsen, these Nikes are just a pair of size 5 sore thumbs.

Kira Plastinina vs U.S. Economy

After less than a year in the states, 10 of 16-year-old Russian fashion sensation Kira Plastinina’s 12 U.S. stores will close.

While Plastinina’s sales have been great overseas, her U.S. retail market saw a decline in demand.  I guess we should be hearing about clearance sales soon…

Scott Schuman for DKNY

The Sartorialist himself, Scott Schuman has shot the new Spring 2009 DKNY Jeans campaign.

Featuring indie favorites like Chanel Iman, Sean Lennon, and Daisy Lowe, the ads are in trademark Schuman style — an individual stopped and snapped while strolling through the city.

Schuman’s ads will debut in February in magazines, on billboards, and online.
