It’s become pretty evident (unless you live under the proverbial rock) that vintage is the new couture, with Whitehorse being a prime example of this phenomenon. This Los Angeles-based men and women’s clothing line is an odd, yet appealing combination of early ‘70’s and late 80’s influences, making for an earthy and retro aesthetic. The spring 2008 collection perpetuates this dichotomy using Native American colors and motifs, groovy graphics and details (note the infamous “shit happens” smiley face) neon hues, and text circa “Valley Girl”. Elsom’s great attention to detail, clean lines, and muted color palette is what makes this line understated, simplistic and just plain gaw-geous. If you really have a conscience, you’ll feel even better knowing that Elsom is a proud supporter of the organic farming industry and textile movement, sourcing material in ways that won’t make mother earth worry her pretty little head.
