Last week I went on a date with Cartier. The notorious luxury jewelry and watch company hosted a small dinner party at The Lion to introduce the new Love Collection.

Bloggers, press, and industry influencers had the pleasure of sipping champagne and getting a first hand look at the new Love collection, which consisted of rings, necklaces, and the ever so famous bracelet.

Created for Cartier in the 1970s in New York by the designer Aldo Cipullo, this bracelet embodies a bond of freedom that can be worn directly on the wrist, a band that he can exchange with her and she with him.

Pierre Rainero, an esteemed member of the Cartier team for the past 26 years, who is currently the brand’s Image, Style and Heritage Director, flew in from Paris for the event. He greeted guests and personally answered questions about the brand, the new collection, and what embodies luxury.

Not only have I always adored Cartier, my latest crave is a piece of the Love collection. I don’t even have a preference, it’s all so gorgeous…and my birthday is in exactly 25 days!

One of my fave new brands, Jaggeredge, is getting some much deserved attention from the fashion world. There iPhone cases are the shiznit and so is this video…

The benefit showcased the cultural evolution of Asian fashion from ancient Chinese dress to the contemporary styles of rising Asian-American designers Ann Yee, Arbitrage, Cody Sai and Janet Zheng (hair & makeup courtesy of The Temple – A Paul Mitchell Partner School), along with an innovative jewelry showcase from ken + dana design. Guests enjoyed the evening of fashion, culture, and cocktails while sipping on beverages courtesy of Christiania Vodka, Chang Beer, Mekhong: The Spirit of Thailand, Fresh Ginger, Ginger Ale, and Icelandic Glacial Water, with munchies courtesy of PopChips.

It’s hard to believe but this is Lane Carlson. It’s been over 10 years an he’s back to modeling, this time for a soccer apparel. His hair is longer and he’s got a mustache, but it’s the same old Lane. Wonder what his brothers been up to?

Good to know Lane’s not afraid to take it off an go black and white in homage to his days with Bruce Weber.

Her look always fit the London fashion scene, where over the top was a way of life, but throw her in New York or Any Mall, Middle America and her look quickly became costume.

Now it seems as if with more power, she’s taking more responsibility for her style, leaving the world of fashion for fashions sake and embracing a style that’s refreshingly unique and very mature.

While she still does manage to wear things that make more sense in theory than in practice, I feel that more and more, as I travel through the backlogs of her blog, I’m witnessing the musings of a Style Icon rather than a girl with a love for mismatched pattering, which for this blogger, who’d rather be in all black and denim is a welcoming discovery.

I really do applaud The Cut for putting this together. It’s actually a preview of a larger documentary called Picture Me, which opened Friday at Angelika Film Center (totally seeing that this week). In the documentary we see what happens when 14 year old girls are thrown into an industry only interested in exploiting them and using them for profit.

The issues this documentary tackles are the same ones we’ve dealt with for years, ones where impossible to match body images are thrown in the face of the public, where the pressure of being thin lead girls to commit suicide, and where black is worse than some four letter words.

Says Ziff, “At BCBG, I was struck by the homogeneity of the cast of rail-thin, tall, blond models. When I was one of the models walking in the shows, I saw the subtle differences between us, but it’s eerie how similar the models look from a distance. En masse, they look like interchangeable, disposable clothes hangers — not memorable individuals.”

Models Vanessa Perron and Amy Lemons and journalists Derek Blasberg and Elizabeth Wellington all weigh in on the topics, which the tall, Caucasian Ziff admits she never gave much thought before now: “Nobody talked about it, and only recently have model friends opened up about the pressure from their agencies to prevent their young bodies from developing naturally.”

Her big hope? That agents, casting directors, and other industry types who actually can make a difference will. “When I went on castings, sometimes I would see notes on my schedule specifying ‘no ethnic girls.’ If this happened in any other business, it would be grounds for a lawsuit,” says Ziff. “But in fashion, it’s considered a matter of taste.”

If you watch the videos, you’ll hear stories of 16-year old girls who are sent to Milan with no money and no support who can only eat by going to nightclubs with rich businessmen. The implication of prostitution is there, which is sad considering so many of the models that hit the runway aren’t from the US, come from poor countries and hope that they will someday raise the ranks of superstars like Gisele. Unfortunately for many, that will never happen.

It’s a very sad yet true portrayal of our industry and it’s one which needed to be shown.

I absolutely adore Erin brinié, simple trendy clothes that are made well and are resonably priced. The sizing is a bit off, since it’s made for a girl without curves, but that’s never stopped me from buying tons of pieces from their racks. It’s sad that the store didn’t make it! Everything is 75% off at their closing sale…

A simply beautiful collection.

All models had long hair and in order to create the faux bobs, the team worked tirelessly to create a braided section underneath the hair – an innovative interpretation of an anchor. Then the hair was side-parted and slicked back with gel. The length was rolled underneath and pinned into the braid, leaving the hairstyles still and stationary.

The looks were set into place by wrapping each bob with a hairnet before blow-drying. Result: slick, smooth styles elegantly crafted into perfect shape. “I really like simple hair and I was so excited that Michael’s team went with this look rather than just a bun or ponytail. This was a really smart take on those types of looks and it looked perfect on the runway,” Dennis concluded.

An epic cover! I want this blown up wall size to hang in my apt asap!

An up and coming fashion phenom, and friend of ARROJO, Katie Gallagher is one of their favorite collabs, and they were thrilled to team up together for a third consecutive season.

Katie’s SS 11 show, dubbed “Arena,”  which was inspired by her love of running, took form in slick, sporty, and futuristic designs (the looks were styled by Elle’s style director, the incomparable Kate Lanphear). Lead stylist David Colvin (my hairstylist) worked with Katie on creating a simple, sporty hairstyle with a twist.

This season, they worked with a very high, sleek ponytail. Clear, plastic tubing was cut down to create a holder for the tails, giving a futuristic vibe to the hair that perfectly mirrored the clothing.

David and team used ARROJO set & style spray to prep the hair, then the ARROJO by IZUNAMI flat iron to smooth and straighten. The tight ponytails were finished with ARROJO’s shine spray – leaving no frizz or flyaways in sight.

Is it just us or is her cleavage a bit misplaced in this ad? If you look at it closely, which you know you want to, you will see that her boobs are not symmetrical. Technically, the cleavage should be right in the middle, sort of parallel with her butt chin…

If I could shop at only one store for the rest of my life, it would be Reiss!They are set to open a new shop-in-shop inside the 59th st Bloomies, which is quite exciting for me, and the brand, since the store is more convenient for me then its downtown locations, and this will help increase their brand awareness.

Domenico and Stefano are not only designers, they are now retail buysers. Their new store will carry their own collection along with the collections of a few coveted designers they have handpicked, including Yigal, Behnaz Sarafpour, Sophie Theallet, and Elisa Palomino. “We don’t think we are the only designers in the world and not necessary the best ones-there are plenty of vaild designers out there.” Stefano told WWD.

The out-of-the-way Center 548 became an unlikely punk haven for Sally LaPointe‘s debut NYFW presentation. Once guests were seated around strategically placed cinder-block bridges, a pair of androgynous boys in black flanked the industrial, neon-lit elevator, fog spilled out over the floor, and girls embracing “the intoxication of accepting madness” tottered out onto the runway.

LaPointe’s collection is all about the juxtaposition of tough edge and dark sophistication–or in her own words, “a mix of beauty and distortion.” Highly conceptual, the 26-year-old is at her best when she keeps it simple. An impossibly slim pantsuit with exaggerated “horsehair lash” hips is a bold, geometric take on proportion, and her opalescent, iridescent monochromes are both elegant and avant-garde.

Call it post-apocalyptic/goth-futurist chic, if you can say that three times fast. She still has a bit to learn to become a real, signature force in high-fashion; there’s quite a hint of Gareth Pugh here, a touch of Rick Owens there–particularly in her hand-crafted shoes, astronomically high monster boots made girly with a cloudy coating of flowers (more than one model took a wee bit of a tumble).

But with her fall 2010 collection already selling out at Convent and Oak, she’s well on her way to becoming a directional superstar. Her first, altogether stunning runway show down, expect her to flourish.

Since today is my anniversary (2 years married and 3 years together) and we are in the middle of fashion week, I’m looking through all the collections for my next wedding dress. Yep, next wedding dress, because Daniel and I have decided to get remarried every 5 years. Sounds like fun, right?

Looking at Christian Siriano’s Spring 2011 collection, I think I have some great choices for my next dress. Any of the above would do, but the red ruffled finale dress is def the first choice!

I usually don’t LOVE collections, at least it’s very rare that I can honestly say that I loved an entire collection, but I really did enjoy the Charlotte Ronson show. The pieces were not only original, they were beautifully draped, and even though they were see through, making them not as wearable as I’d like, this is what makes them dramatic and very Ronson.  Loving the bright colors, the hits of floral prints, and the embellishments.

For three days now, finding a cab has been torture! Since the tents were moved uptown, the commute to the shows has been unbelievably difficult. From running to Lincoln Center, to rushing down to Milk Studios and then west to Exit Art, three days of this and I’m exhausted, my feet hurt, and from now on I’m only going to shows that confirmed my seating arrangements.

How are you guys doing with the cab situation?

If you’ve been to the new tents at Lincoln Center at all this fashion week then you’ve probably noticed the over abundance of little people hanging around. Not only are they in the tent area, they are attempting to sneak into shows, and then, if somehow they get through (well…they are short and fit right under the ropes\) they have the audacity to try to sit front row.

What do you guys think? Anyone else pissed at all the midgets?
