Runway: Bernhard Willhelm, Fall 2008Runway: Bernhard Willhelm, Fall 2008

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Bernhard Willhelm’s well anticipated collection, so when I found I was going to his show I was very excited. What I actually saw was a 18 minute film about men in spandex, moving their leg pretending to be ballerinas, and doing other forms of ‘Art’. Where was his collection? I guess you could say that I was disappointed. This was more of an art performance rather than a showing of his collection.

I wanted to talk to Willhelm after the show, to understand more of where he was coming from and what statement he was trying to make, but when I went up to him he looked at me and turned away. As I was about to shake his hand  his PR agent basically told me to go away. Ironically, in ‘Fashion Now’ he stated, “The most important lesson I’ve learned is to be kind.”  WELL, THANKS FOR NOTHING!

So after an hour of drinking cocktails and mingling around, we actually met some really nice industry people, who also sat through the film and didn’t grasp the concept. I later left the Tribeca Grand Hotel knowing nothing about the collection, and only remembering dancing hands.

Biographies should be written after one is dead! So for now, I am alive in New York, designing for a Norwegian brand Flinga, keeping it short and sweet being an intern for Fashion Indie, which rocks!
