Husam El Odeh studied fine are at the renowned Hochscheule der Kuenste in Berlin and worked successfully as an artist in Berlin until he moved to London in 1999. There he exchanged the canvas for the body and startd to study jewellery. His work is about balancing tactile and visual qualities. It confuses expectation. The combination of opposites is a key element. The immediacy of the body is an integral part of the work.

Designer Discovery: Marc Le Bihan

Well, Marc Le Bihan isn’t exactly a new designer, but his Autumn/Winter 2008 line definitely caught my eye! His collection may be a bit dark, dismal and mysterious, but I will admit that I enjoy his luscious, almost masculine, layers paired with combat boots and the ever popular “baby face”. Okay, so I wouldn’t go as far as layering a lace dress with pants, boots and a sweater, but lets face it, Le Bihan has got the layer look down pat for the colder months!

Thanks for the photos Flip-Zone!

Modern Lovers is a new brand from LA, who launched their first collection called Mysteries For Modern Lovers for Spring 2009. The line fucking rules! I love all the shirts, and I will definitely have some of these for the up coming Spring season. I try to avoid doing just a tee shirt as often as possible, but these are some I would definitely go out in (not to mention I get lazy easily). For more on Modern Lovers be sure to check out their website and Etsy store!

Designer Discovery: GAR DE

New York design collective GAR-DE — French for “protection” — is committed to innovation and quality.

GAR-DE works with different artists each season to “create a brand that is subversive and considered; conceptually grounded with a sense of humor.”  Designers used leather for their Fall debut collection, and now bless us with these leather, Vespa-inspired styles for Spring.  I am no less than infatuated with the green jacket’s cut and color.

You can find Gar-de at OAK NYC.  28 bond st. NYC 10012

Images from Style Bubble.

You can view their FW 2008 lookbook and more online at GAR-DE.com

Orri Henrisson is a Melbourne based company lead by Henry Ng. The collection is a hip youthful look with a solid combination of well crafted pieces and simple screen printing. The looks are fairly effortless to create as they are simple yet look great. The orange women’s shorts are great, and I would love to have that grey men’s jacket in the last picture. Sometimes simple is just as good my friends.

KTZ (short for Kokan to Zai) have been making fashion magic on the streets of Paris and London of late, and the line really brings back the imagination aspect of fashion. Lucky for us, KTZ designs for both men and women, and a lot of the pieces even fall into the unisex category. With such unique and spectacular pieces, the collection begs one to think about what they wear on a regular basis, and more or less tell it to fuck off. The drop crotch pants are to die for, and to say the tops are oversized would be an understatement. Extremely hip, extremely cool, but not easy to pull off. I hope that this collection and look is one that doesn’t get confined to the streets of Williamsburg only. Proceed with caution, but you have my back if you are going to dive into the world of KTZ!

Thanks to The Fashionisto for the images.

The handsewn wool and silk “Folie A Deux” antler bag is Rich-in-Craft‘s first piece. The elegance of fine fabric contrasts with the wild imagery of the polyurethane/glass horn handle.

Los Angeles-based designers Tiffani Anne Williams and Parker Todd Brooks head Rich-in-Craft, which is dedicated to craftsmanship and artistry.

Only 36 Folie A Deux have been produced.

Designer: Matthew Ames

Matthew Ames is an Australian designer whose collection of Halstonesque dresses has been producing a stir since it’s inception in 1982. Of course, after grabbing national attention in his native land, the designer went MIA, working for a few bespoke tailors in England. In 2003 the designer made a small return to fashion with a private show at his atelier.

Enjoying his own private universe, Mattherw Ames is a reclouse in the fashion world, deciding not to get caught up in the big Anna Wintour run machine, choosing to show his collection to smaller, more select audiences.  His geometric cuts meet impecabble tailoring in a colletion that borders on the ideal of a futuristic landscape. Check out some picks from his Spring Summer 2009 collection.

Italian jewelry designer Marzia Delle Cave launched her line in 2007. The daughter of an architect, Cave established a showroom in Milan before starting her Marzia G collection in Miami. Marzia G draws inspiration from an array of cultures, ethnicities, and tribes. Each one-of-a-kind piece — right now limited to bracelets and necklaces — is a chunky mini-sculpture of rocks, metals, and other tokens.

Emerging with a strong hold on innovative design, Tara Levitin is turning heads. Mending one-of-a-kind jewelry at her fingertips, Tara has a distinct goal for Leviticus Jewelry. The gold and silver works are designed to enhance a woman’s confidence; the various colors threaded throughout the pieces allow for that confidence to breathe. What’s Tara’s main purpose? “Her goal is to make pieces that cater to each woman and help accentuate their beauty.”

The originality of the works allows for a wide range of consumers. Offering an extensive range of necklaces, bracelets and earrings, Leviticus Jewelry can make all heads turn in awe. The necklaces are often double chained, encasing designs, which are intertwined with their unique character. Though edge and flair are certain, the degree to which Tara accomplishes those characteristics is ideal. When Tara pictures someone wearing one of her designs it’s with true purpose. She loves to see “women have confidence and love for themselves regardless of their shape, gender, or differences.” The pieces are truly the perfect addition to any ensemble.
