Anthony’s “claim to fame” is apparently that he was “born the same day “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” by the Beatles, was released in the U.S.” Obviously Weiner was on a fast track to romance at an early age. He’s a Virgo, ladies.

Weiner describes his ideal woman as “someone smarter than me,” and judging by the fact that his wife, Huma Abedin is not only Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s top aide, but also hasn’t been caught sending crotch shots across the internet, it looks like Weiner hit the jackpot. Let’s hope Huma’s description of her ideal man was “someone more stupid than me.”

Oh, did we mention Huma is gorgeous and has great fashion sense? That’s an Oscar de la Renta weddng dress.

Why didn’t Gap announce this as a big revision? Are they secretly ashamed they changed the logo from a cultural icon to a piece of crap I could have done in my sleep? Brand Channel has some insight on to why this mutation may have occurred:

“But ditching the classic logo, recognized by everyone, in favor of whatever that new monstrosity is, demonstrates a prototypical brand panic move. With things not going in its favor, the brand decides to change the one valuable element it has going for it. Ironically maybe, the new logo is perfect for the brand. It communicates exactly the values currently embodied by Gap: A sense of being lost and a lack of clear vision and creativity.”

Well said! And as much as I love Helvetica, Gap didn’t need to use it like everyone else. They’re not fooling anyone by using a “hipper” font and design for their logo. Maybe the design team should be working a little harder on the merchandise if they want to acquire a new, younger customer.

I really do applaud The Cut for putting this together. It’s actually a preview of a larger documentary called Picture Me, which opened Friday at Angelika Film Center (totally seeing that this week). In the documentary we see what happens when 14 year old girls are thrown into an industry only interested in exploiting them and using them for profit.

The issues this documentary tackles are the same ones we’ve dealt with for years, ones where impossible to match body images are thrown in the face of the public, where the pressure of being thin lead girls to commit suicide, and where black is worse than some four letter words.

Says Ziff, “At BCBG, I was struck by the homogeneity of the cast of rail-thin, tall, blond models. When I was one of the models walking in the shows, I saw the subtle differences between us, but it’s eerie how similar the models look from a distance. En masse, they look like interchangeable, disposable clothes hangers — not memorable individuals.”

Models Vanessa Perron and Amy Lemons and journalists Derek Blasberg and Elizabeth Wellington all weigh in on the topics, which the tall, Caucasian Ziff admits she never gave much thought before now: “Nobody talked about it, and only recently have model friends opened up about the pressure from their agencies to prevent their young bodies from developing naturally.”

Her big hope? That agents, casting directors, and other industry types who actually can make a difference will. “When I went on castings, sometimes I would see notes on my schedule specifying ‘no ethnic girls.’ If this happened in any other business, it would be grounds for a lawsuit,” says Ziff. “But in fashion, it’s considered a matter of taste.”

If you watch the videos, you’ll hear stories of 16-year old girls who are sent to Milan with no money and no support who can only eat by going to nightclubs with rich businessmen. The implication of prostitution is there, which is sad considering so many of the models that hit the runway aren’t from the US, come from poor countries and hope that they will someday raise the ranks of superstars like Gisele. Unfortunately for many, that will never happen.

It’s a very sad yet true portrayal of our industry and it’s one which needed to be shown.

He 33-year old Canadian tells the New York Times:

“A ‘lewk’ is like, ‘I’m wearing a lewk today,’ it’s something that everybody will notice. It’s like you’re out of the pages of a magazine, that’s a lewk.”

“ ‘Werk’ is a feeling,” he continued, “like you werk your lewk. Like, was it werking? Was it happening, was it going on? A mayjor lewk is, like, above and beyond actual major.”

Another day, another Tim Gunn bash. This dude is officially becoming my favorite Grumpy Old Man…

Gunn was recently trapped in a room with wannabe bad ass Taylor Momsen. I guess they were acting together or something, I don’t know, I don’t pay attention, either way he had this to say to E! on the “entertainer”.

Gunn told E!, “What a diva! She was pathetic, she couldn’t remember her lines, and she didn’t even have that many. I thought to myself, ‘Why are we all being held hostage by this brat?’”

BURN!!! But I guess Gunn wasn’t alone. “At one point the director leaned in and whispered to me, ‘This is day in, day out, my life.’ She annoyed the entire crew,” he added.

Gunn added that if he had to offer some constructive criticism…

“I’d say, ‘You know young lady, there are hundreds of thousands of girls who are just as attractive and even smarter than you. Why are you acting like this show is a huge burden on you?’ She was on her phone during every break, I wanted to tell her, ‘If you weren’t on your BlackBerry, you can retain this stuff.’

Ouch. Guess Gunn won’t be invited to any Pretty Reckless concerts in the future…

I really don’t see the point of this brand trying to act like people care about the exact same pencil skirt coming down the runway each season, it’s the equivalent of Express trying to convince us that anything ever changes in their mens collection, not happening.

So when they decided to host a fashion show, you can understand my apprehension towards attending. I thought about hitting it up, but when I didn’t get a seat confirmation, I skipped it and decided to just watch the drama unfold on the twitterverse.

Big surprise, drama ensued.

Aside from having 200+ people in standing room, a number of guests were left outside. To add injury to insult, top blogs like Styleite where forced to mingle with the common folk as they watched toddlers seated front row. Guess someones baby mama at Bebe took a seat over child support this month.

Eitherway, the show seemed to be a total bust, with most editors annoyed with the massive crowds and random frontrowers. Here’s a few of the most entertaining tweets…

The after show was kind of disappointing also. I wish the hosts would have asked more questions, but Lauren Conrad was there and that is all I needed. The other Indies are always laughing at me because I was addicted to the show, but I’m not ashamed to say that I love those girls!  They represented the American dream to me. Luck for me, The City might have another season, and I can’t wait to see what’s going on next for Whitney and Olivia. Since I am a raging fanatic, I hope that Lauren Conrad will make an appearance on an episode.

2. Fashionista: Ooh, so right! Get rid of it! Along with recessionista! And everything else that ends in -ista!

3. Designer ‘being used to describe branded clothing‘ (Like: This cape is so Phoebe Philo).

5. Must have: Yeah, ok, because really, must-haves are supposed to be over. Just ask Miss Philo. I must have talked about her clogs and bags at least 2 million times this season. The must-have is here MORE THAN EVER, but we’re not allowed to say it out loud anymore. That’s called recessionypocrisy! (Voilà! I invented a word! I am a wordista!)

6. Celeb: Oh definitely yes, let’s get rid of that.

7. ‘in’: DEFINITELY YES, unless you’re humming the Gainsbourg song.

8. LBD (slang for Little Black Dress): You know what that means, huh? In French, we’d say PRN. But we’re too cool to reduce PRN to three initials. Plus, that makes it seem like a medical term or something, don’t you think?

9. Style Icon: Oh yeah. We’ve used the word icon so much we don’t even know what it means anymore. A pair of shoes can be called an icon these days. Everything is an icon.

10. Funky: Oh my god, Violaine, don’t tell me there are still people that use this word!!!

11. “It” thing (it-bag, it girl, it-shoes)

We can agree on most of these but really must add a few of our own…

1. Vogue Worthy: Cause the only shit “Vogue Worthy” these days are the designers who can afford advertising.

2. Fierce, Make It Work, Bananas, I Die or any other term or catchphrase drudged up from the Bravo cistern of “talent”.

3. “The Next…”: As in “The Next McQueen” or “The Next Kate Moss”, can’t you just be you without having to be compared to those before you? I’ve been called “The Next Perez” and “The Next Wintour” and neither one makes a shit-lick of sense.

4. Plus Size Model: Just model should do, why must we stress the fact that they’re fat?

5. Metrosexual: The term that seems to never die. Just read a New York Times article where they referenced the “Age of the Metrosexual”, considered driving a car bomb through their building.

6. Thrify: This word just doesn’t belong in fashion.

7. “Haute” Used Inappropriately: The Fashionista Girls pointed this one out, but I totally agree. I hate when people try to make this word sound like “Hot” and then use it to describe an event or a collection. The pronunciation is closer to “Oat” and unless your talking about something that can be considered breakfast, don’t use it. (Though Honey Bunches of Haute doesn’t sound like such a bad idea…)
