Plastics Make it PossibleSM Partners with Gen Art for Designer Competition

Plastics Make it PossibleSM, a program sponsored by the plastics industries of the American Chemistry Council, is partnering with Gen Art, to create a nationwide design competition challenging new and established fashion designers to create two dynamic womenswear looks made from fabrics that include plastic-based fibers such as chiffon, rayon, nylon and more.

Interested designers can submit their creations here and the winner will receive a $10,000 prize and runway show at Gen Art’s Fresh Faces event at Winter 2010 New York Fashion Week. Even if you’re not a budding Versace or Armani you can still get involved – consumers can vote for their favorite looks through December 15 by visiting the same website. All entries must be submitted by December 1 and the winner will be announced December 21.

You Would Think Wild Turkey Would Be the Ideal Choice for a 100 Proof Thanksgiving?

Paul Hurley, A local Irish bar and tavern owner in Manhattan is bringing a new twist for the Thanksgiving Holiday by unveiling the nation’s first 100 proof turkey which is infused with fruit flavored and 100 proof Georgi vodka. Getting wasted and getting stuffed. Two of my favorite holiday traditions, together at last.

The Turkey takes three days to prepare for the Holiday. 100 proof vodka is infused in the bird for three days before the final cooking. Peach, Raspberry, Cherry and Apple flavored vodka’s are also part of the turkeys base. 100 proof vodka is also lightly placed in the gravy as well. No one under 21 is allowed to join the feast.

The bar is also including a free taxi ride in the city for those who order the holiday specialty.

The turkey will unveiled at a Media Conference with 100 proof vodka being infused on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:45am at O’Casey’s Tavern on 22 East 41st Street between Fifth and Madison Avenue.

The day before thanksgiving is known as one of the busiest drinking days of the years and the partying does not stop for everyone. Dozens of bar patrons have already pre-ordered the turkey. Georgi Vodka plans on placing the recipe at every liquor store in the nation.

The Diesel:U:Music event was the place to be in Miami, Florida on Tuesday, November 17th! Outside, the line wrapped around the building and people tried to bust in with fake wristbands. Inside, DJ MOMJEANS, Santigold, Kid Cudi, Jemina Pearl and The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! performed while models and socialites from the Miami scene livened the party.

While some found this quote to be clever and cute, British eating-disorder campaigners blame the comment for making it more difficult for people struggling with eating-disorders. Moss’ agents claim that she doesn’t support the eating-disorder lifestyle. I guess the only thing that can redeem Moss is a few leaked photos of her chowing down on Thanksgiving!

Candace Bushnell to Release ‘The Carrie Diaries’

Here is the first image of the cover of Candace Bushnell’s The Carrie Diaries, a young adult book series set during the teen years of the Sex And The City protagonist.

“Carrie in high school did not follow the crowd – she led it, it was there that she began observing and commenting on the social scene.”

The first volume of The Carrie Diaries is scheduled for release April 27, 2010, just a month before the theaterical release of Sex And The City 2.

Everyone’s A Rockstar At The Soho Grand!

Work was not easy on Friday after we all partied the night away at the Soho Grand Hotel the night before. If you weren’t aware, Fashion Indie co hosts a party every Thursday night at the hotel that’s organized by Niko Liakaris. We’re also lucky enough to team up with DJ Lindsay Luv, Jon Daly, Gabi Richmond and Against Nature as well.

This week we had a few special guests from CFE (Centre for Fashion Enterprise) and guest DJ Allan Bendy, along with Kate Lanphear and some friends from NYLON magazine all in attendance. Belvedere was kind enough to provide the party with way more than enough vodka, and like all of Niko’s parties, we didn’t let any of that go to waste.

Thanks to all of you who made it out this week, and for those of you who couldn’t make it, hopefully we’ll see you next time. I also want to thank Mike Mabes for these amazing photos!

For all our Floridian indies, Diesel:U:Music is set to hit Miami, Florida on November 17th! With performances by big names like DJ Mom Jeans, Kid Cudi and Santigold, the evening is slated to be an epic party that you won’t want to miss out on.
