Top 10 Fashion Gadgets
#10 - As a lethal beauty, Agent 99 couldn’t resist Chanel’s weapon-wear for the runway. It’s fashion and function in one…IF you’re a spy.
#9 - Skooba’s Skreener Bag wouldn’t fool modern-day X-ray machines, but looks like it might. Fashion is all about appearances.
#8 - Dr. Jenny Tillotson constructed this scent dress to mimic the body’s circulation system. An interactive fabric emits a selection of scents depending on your mood to create a personal “smell bubble.” Probably not the most stealth of outfits.
#7 - All you need is love. Literally. The “Embrace Me” hoodie’s logo pattern, made of a silver conductive fabric, is powered when two people embrace: it lights up while giving off a faint heartbeat sound.
#6 - Cleopatra’s iconic gold arm band goes digital with the Nike+ SportBand. Runners can monitor distance, pace, time and calories burned and then plug into their laptop to download the data.
#5 - Charge your iPod Shuffle while you bask on the beach. NYU student Andrew Schneider’s solar bikinis are handmade and specifically designed to fit and flatter your body. A male version, with enough voltage to keep a six pack of beer cool (the original inspiration for the project) is in the works.
#4 - A tiny sensor strapped into the laces of the running shoes in the Nike+ Capable series makes it possible listen to real-time Nike audio feedback wirelessly through to the receiver.
#3 - Keep your data close to your heart and covered in bling with Swarovski’s clever charm with a hidden jump drive for stealing files (or just downloading party pics off friends’ laptops, for us NON-spys).
#2 - Ideal for slope-side sleuth work. Burton’s Audex ski jacket is fitted with enough gear to fuel a private dj station. Bluetooth technology and a control panel with caller ID are hidden in the sleeve, and speakers and a microphone are concealed in the hood.
#1 - Proof that the future is finally here: fashion and comfort have merged. These Mary Janes are just one of several collapsible heels that have hit the market. Go from stilettos to kitten heels in a few clicks.

Designer Discovery; Locher’s
Well, I’ve already spoiled part of the surprise by linking you to the “Kate” necklace, but don’t look to Locher’s just for jewelry. One of my favorite under-recognized designers, Locher’s is a Paris-based line that makes sweet but oh-so-naughty tops and jewelry. Emblazoned with the most delicate embroidery and phrases like “sans culotte” (meaning “no panties” in French) and “Will fuck for shoes”, these pieces are too choice NOT to own. I have my eye on “Boys” and “petite salope” (little slut) myself, but I’ll leave it up to you to decide just how forward you want to be.
Caitlin Mociun at Jumelle
I just received an email from one of my favorite boutiques in Williamsburg Jumelle. Jumelle has everything from established designers like Sonia Rykiel to new designers like Caitlin Mociun, who’s new summer collection they just received.
Here’s a little info on the collection
Each season Brooklyn-based wondergal Caitlin Mociun excites us with her whimsical, artistic and unique hand-drawn designs. She finds inspiration in anything and everything - old family photos, her global travels, her frisky cat Judas, the artwork of Kiki Smith and Henry Darger and Native American textiles. The Mociun summer collection includes tie-dye (our favorite camp activity), mineral and doily prints and a natural print made from potatoes.
You can find Mociun’s collection as well as many others on Jumelle’s website or stop by their store at 148 Bedford Avenue.
Designer Discovery; Jessica Jensen
A signature collection of sophisticated handbags defined as pure affordable luxury. Launching for spring summer 08, this rising Canadian designer has enlightened us with a modern perspective on classic design. Jensen highlights basics with carefully selected, European leathers and an infusion of unique detailing creating effortlessly stylish bags. As one of the most talked about new collections in North America, Jessica Jensen is the latest must-have label in women’s designer accessories.
Jensen’s debut collection is praised for designs that are clean, crisp and impossibly fresh. Her talent is unveiled in the creations of her limited-edition totes which are hand-finished in indulgently soft leathers. Each bag is a work of art, designed from her studio in Toronto and carefully crafted in New York and Italy. Chic and feminine, Jessica’s bags are lined with her signature blush pink suede which speaks to the girl inside of us all. Bags are available online at Jessica Jensen.
Sheila Frank Now Available at Topstitch
One of our fave designers, and total sweetheart, Sheila Frank, is now selling her amazing collection of swimwear at Topstitch in Philly. But don’t fret, if you can’t get to PA, the collection is also available online at Sheila Frank.
