Burkman Bros Guide for Tourists and Being Shirtless at Concerts

Edited by

The Burkman Bros are the some of the greatest tourists on the planet. For each new collection, brothers Ben and Doug Burkman road trip or travel to a new destination for inspiration. They’ve gone to Iceland, traversed America, and so many other locales. They also had a big move recently, into the CFDA Incubator! So last night at the launch of their collaboration with Urban Outfitters (nothing over $59!), after I perused the hot models wearing the The Tourist collection, I asked brothers Burkman about their packing skills.

Edited by

LOOKBOOKS contributor Kenberly Paul mused on Emily Blunt’s latest editorial for Vogue Italia.

Emily Blunt gives old Hollywood glamour with a bit of 70′s flavor in Vogue Italia’s May 2012 editorial spread. Shot by photographer Francesco Carrozini (Marek and Associates) , inspiration for the spread came from the work of English painter, David Hockney.

DESIGNER DAILY: Ax + Apple

Edited by

“They don’t make ‘em like they used to,” says a dejected general consensus. Not jewelry nor funeral effects. Well, by Ax and by Apple, Austin-based jewelry maker Jamie Lyn is changing that. Under the guise Ax + Apple, she’s making jewelry using the all but lost art of wax molds, in symbols that have held cryptic meanings throughout the span of time. Her current collection Imperial Ash explores spiritual burial offerings historically found in tombs and charnal houses the world over. Initially driven to make old world jewelry from her stint as a props person on period films, her pieces induce the supernatural, superstitious, and sturdily-made trinkets of yore.

How the Dirty Librarian Makes Her Chains

Edited by

The Dirty Librarian let “Made in Brooklyn” filmmakers Dustin Cohen and Michael Hurley into her BK studio for gorgeous peek at how she makes her Chains. Susan Domelsmith makes her Dirty Librarian Chains by hand of 90% reclaimed materials, and she stores and restores them in a manner as beautiful as the finished product. By the bye, she’s also in a badass band with two other jewelry makers, and makes a guitar strap that turns into a belt. Watch it happen.

5 Ways to Sneak Booze into a Concert

Edited by

You bought the ticket, you don’t want to buy drinks, too. (I’m assuming you’re cheap, like me.) But at the door of nearly every concert, there’s a near-TSA-certified, seemingly government ordained pat down. We found some super sneaky ways to bust that booze past security, and put it into your body, where it belongs during those songs.

DESIGNER DAILY: Factory by Erik Hart

Edited by

Out of a stark white live-in studio in Downtown L.A. comes the experimental clothing of Erik Hart. He explains, “It’s always an exercise in the tension of dichotomy. I like to take a garment to the purest essence of what they want to be. I have no interest in the excess or the ornamental. I don’t do trends.” He calls his company Factory because it gives him a wider breadth to express himself than clothing alone, and as a grateful nod to Andy Warhol. An artist of many mediums, he’s a photographer, he creates installations, and has been touring in bands since the age of 16. “I used to think of ideas in sound. Then over the years I started to think of it in imagery, sound being secondary.“ With visuals first in mind, and a minimalist mentality, he’s thriving with forward thinking garments. Peek inside the factory doors at Fall 2012 here.

Videography: Madonna

Edited by

Remember when Madonna was the coolest bitch on the face of the planet? It was some time around 1983 through 1990. During that time Madonna revolutionized the music video and set the bar for the modern pop diva. Through a series of reinventions, Madge inspired and disseminated trends, influenced a generation of women and put out some seriously great music. That’s not to say she stopped doing that after 1990, but that was by far her greatest artistic and stylistic period. Of course, being the cultural force she is, Madonna kept going and kept pushing boundaries — all the while blurring the lines between fashion and music so that today it’s unimaginable conceiving one without the other. So while it’s great to go googoo over Gaga, here’s what made (and still — when she feels like it) makes Madonna the coolest bitch on the face of the planet.
