Spongebob Squarepaint

I love beauty products with a sense of humor. You can’t take makeup too seriously, or you will look like Liza Minnelli on Halloween. That’s why Rescue Beauty Lounge has made my wish list with its new line of nail polish named after the Spongebob Squarepants cartoon. The polish trio contains three muted colors called “Starfish Patrick”, “Bikini Bottom” and “Square Pants.” I like when childhood pop culture is used to develop grown-up products. Now all I want is a pair of Sesame Street platform shoes!

Trendspark: Brightness

A revival of the 80’s is upon us. The burgeoning of bright jeans and sneakers has turned into something bigger. Nail companies, Essie, O.P.I and Chanel have taken note and subsequently launched their own neon nail color lines. Women have been hitting the streets clad in colorful lip and eye color.  From the catwalk to the sidewalk, women are embracing ROYBGIV.

First Purfumed Nail Polish

The glory days of huffing noxious fumes—magic markers, paint thinner, fixatives—never included nail polish. Until now, thanks to Berlin’s Uslu Airlines, a quirky cosmetics company known for its DIY airbrushing contraption and who commissioned Bernhard Willhelm to develop nail polish colors (expect three more later this year). A collaboration with Colette, Uslu’s metallicized screen-blue shellack comes smelling like figgy FRIA, the boutique’s best-selling fragrance—which makes it the world’s first perfumed nail polish. Maybe now we won’t get raised eyebrows when we do a quick mani touch-up in public.
