Rick Owens Sets Up Shop in New York
WWD reports that “Rick Owens is setting up shop in New York. The Paris-based designer, who originates from Los Angeles, is busy decorating his first Stateside store…” The store will open in August and will feature “an aquariumlike wall installation that contains circulating fog”, which seems cool, but may be just some weird smoke machine contraption when it’s all said and done. The shop will be on the corner of Dominick and Hudson in TriBeCa.

Shopbop Gives Us a Sultry Swim

Shopbop may have just taken a page from the glossies with their latest spread, “Sultry Swim”. I may be wrong, but I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen a man make it into one of their campaigns. So basically, buy the swimwear, cause the boy will come soon. You can shop the collection of swimwear at shopbop.com.

There’s No Business Like BOW Business

Henri Bendel’s will feature Angel Lust headpieces which were designed by fellow indie, Kristen May Anastasia. Kristen has been building a cult-like following amongst downtown and uptown girls for her hyper-styled headgear, which was recently featured on Gossip Girls (I know, we said we wouldn’t talk about them again, but come on, one of our friends got her goods on the show and it’s worth a mention).
You can pick up one of these exclusive head pieces at Henri Bendels thru Wednesday so stop by. If you really love Gossip Girls (which I’m sure you all do), then head there on Tuesday cause one of the stars of the show will be available to sign autographs with Kristen.
If you can’t stop by Bendel’s, you can pick up Angel Lust at Shop and Patricia Fields.

Designer Discovery; Ananas
After four years in Tokyo, designer Jennifer Baum Lagdameo found herself living in the Philippines, where she was inspired by the local traditional textile techniques and the indigenous materials.
Ananas started from a small collection of abaca (eco friendly natural fiber) handbags and developed into a retro-chic collection of both leather and abaca that maintains the natural vibe by utilizing organic materials from the Philippines such as coconut shells, mother-of-pearl shells and polished native woods. As Ananas continues to evolve, Lagdameo is continuously experimenting and designing with new textiles and materials creating unique products unlike anything else on the market. Ananas handbags are all handmade in New York City. For each bag sold, a tree is planted by “Trees for the Future”
Ananas is available at cocosshoppe.

Ben Sherman Announces 2000s as The Age of Indie

Rock and Ska

Britpop and Indie
Ben Sherman has just put out a collection of dresses from London-based label PPQ. The dresses cover multiple time periods, each with their own style inspiration and name. According to Racked.com, there is a black-and-white 60’s Mod frock, a paisley-print 70’s Rock number, a gray-and-black 80’s Ska outfit, a stripey 90’s Britpop look and a boho 00’s INDIE design. That’s right indies we are in the generation of INDIE. (Aren’t you special for reading fashion indie)
Who’s PPQ: Think British Heatherette with Peaches Geldoff taking the place of Paris Hilton on the runway.
The dresses are going for $300 a piece, but their limited nature makes them worth the cash drop. Head to Ben Sherman’s 96 Spring Street location to get the indielicious dresses.

An American Apparel Model in Paris

She pushes short shorts for American Apparel …
The Paris Review has enjoyed a long history as one of literatures most prolific jumping board for intellectuals looking to build up a career in journalism or lit. Interns are usually carefully selected based on their education, with many students coming from Ivy leagues like Yale. Of course, this all changed when one former model hit the school with a resume that include previous employer American Apparel.
The school jumped at the chance to have this little literary lolita on board and quickly pushed her pretty little face to hawk their tees and totes. Now the tees and totes are must haves for anyone who enjoys a little irony with their daily book review. They cost $20 bucks and earn you massive cred for those who can recognize the ridiculousness of all of this. Best of all they’re printed on American Apparel tees. For more on this story visit Gawker.com.
