We’ve been laboring under the impression that Karlie Kloss had her coming-of-aging party in that naked yet demure Allure spread by Mario Testino. Now, months later for March 2012 Vogue, she emerges as a lady. Fully attired in the most ladylike of looks. Swathed in Chanel, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino Cheap & Chic ($665 for a sequined cardi – neither that cheap nor chic… I digress), and some other of Queen Anna Wintour‘s all time favorite advertisers designers, Karlie looks like the proper woman of the house. Strong. Do you see those poses? She’s matrixing in stilettos, her body is practically horizontal in some, captured moving through space on an arched foot. It’s called WERQ.

Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel has clearly been doing some yoga when she’s not flying down the runway in her bra and panties. That would at least explain how she arches her heel behind her back as if she’s about to deathdrop all over Paris’ ball in Prabal Gurung’s spring 2012 ad campaign. Photog Daniel Jackson captured the contorting Candice in one of our favorite collections from last fashion week, with a little styling help from Tiinaa Laakkonen.

Yves Saint Laurent is showing their manly side this spring with its first menswear ad campaign in almost five years. The last time YSL ran a menswear campaign was for fall 2007 when Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot industrial designer Marc Newsom. Reflecting, according to the house of YSL, the continued global growth of its men’s wear line, Stefano Pilati signed on David Sims to capture model Baptiste Radufe for spring 2012.

The weight, dress size and health of models have always been hot-button topics, both in and out of the fashion industry. While runways are slowly shying away from the ultra-thin, heroin chic craze that dominated the late-90s and resurfaced in the mid-00s with all those pale, starving girls from Eastern Europe, and the CFDA has enacted initiatives to ensure the health and safety of models, there is still a large disparity between the average woman and what she sees when opens up the pages of Vogue. And with fashion, the trend simply trickles down to the rest of society. Just take a look at the skeletons on this Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet. Bombarded with these images on a daily basis, how can impressionable young girls and women in general have a healthy body image? Plus Model Magazine decided to address this issue head-on with an editorial featuring Katya Zharkova and a handful of disturbing factoids.

The alleged sexiness of her previous ads notwithstanding, Rihanna returns for a steamy roll in the proverbial hay with Armani. Thankfully gone is that cheap Victoria Beckham-esque wig as RiRi opts for a more natural (one assumes it’s natural-ish, anyway) do and sultry rather than sleezy posturing.
