#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Joseph Abboud F/W 2012

Edited by

Never underestimate the power of an impeccably dressed man, gentlemen, and you will travel far and wide. The Joseph Abboud man knows of this sensibility and has for a very long time. For his first runway show in seven years, creative director Bernardo Rojo looked back to a great era in American design and created his Fall/Winter 2012 collection for a modern version of the 1930s sharp-witted rogue. Once again, men are building themselves from scratch, and they are dressing the part to get there.

Accessory Alert: Robot & Brucling Stunning Studded Leather Bow Ties

Edited by

I met Robot years ago in a Soho Starbucks; his radical fur bow tie begged a conversation. Last night at the StyleLikeU party, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the other half, Brucling (pronounced Bruce Ling, see below) over a dangerously studded leather jacket and an open tequila bar. I learned that the Alacran Tequila drinks are strong and Brucling does custom studding. The duo, Robot & Brucling, makes break-neck bow ties that will either spark a conversation, or make others fear you slightly. Either way, stunning.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Hyden Yoo Autumn/Winter 2012

Edited by

Hyden Yoo used debonair dressing and the sometimes overwhelming unattainable beauty of a woman to tell the story behind his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. Set in a darkly wooded library with vaulted ceilings, models stood in clusters – the men in layers and the women dressed and ready to stay right there in the warmth of the fireplace – looking bored as can be. Though both sexes were polished and narcissistic in demeanor, the men were on a higher pedestal in my eyes.

With a vintage aesthetic, modern sensibilities, and a hundred-year-plan, The Brooklyn Circus founded by  Ouigi Theodore, is a collective of creative visionaries that are working to make the urban man solidly dapper. Think your grandfather’s varsity jacket, 1920s tailoring, 40s austerity and a slightly French attitude meets Great Gatsby. This past Saturday night, they turned the Brooklyn Museum Target First Saturday into quite the circus as they showed their newest collection to hundreds thousands of shoppers, supporters and museum-goers. Always chasing the new eternal classics, they’ve begun to open stores across the country to spread these new discoveries further. It’s the lifestyle they’re trying to embody with the creative workman’s gear.

Designer Daily: Henrik Vibskov

Edited by

Henrik Vibskov is an installation artist featured in MoMa and museums and galleries worldwide, and he’s the drummer for Trentmøller. This Central Saint Martens grad is also the only Scandinavian on the official Paris show roster and has put out 20 collections in the past decade. Henrik Vibskov is creating exhilarating menswear that embraces color and outspoken silhouettes in a wearable way, fusing radical shapes with traditional tailored pieces. The sculptor within him ensures his stores and presentations are ever changing by his own hands. His Soho store is a feast for the eyes up to the ceiling, and also features other designers aligned with his philosophy, like SVSV, Comme des Garçons and Bernhard Willhelm. He’s a chill, multi-talented man, making clothing for equally interesting gentlemen across the world. His Fall 2012 collection is here.
