Death. Demons. Shrimp? The Savannah, Georgia born Shrimp Sauce brings a little mischief to the their debut collection of tees. You can grab the collection which features knives, masked men, wolves and of course, shrimp at their newly opened online store.

Currently on the Finnish edition of Project Runway, Antti Asplund has the most outlandish attire, wearing everything and anything from “Elizabethan poet’s ruff made out of newspaper, or a wee marionette man hanging from his neck.” My new hero!!!

Danielle Scutt’s past three Spring/Summer Ready to Wear shows at London Fashion Week were different, and all absolutely amazing.  I love the short skirts, the cut outs, and the crazy hair and hair pieces!  This is definitely a designer worth paying attention to.

Hungarian’s Éva Nyíri’s recent graduate thesis collection isn’t for the delicate or faint of heart.
Entitled Black on Black, the goal of the collection was to rethink women’s jackets, making them as versatile as possible. Starting from a common silhouette, she achieved this effect by placing emphasis in and exaggerating different areas: the neck, the shoulders, the chest, and the waist.
Her spot on inspirations differ wildly: Samurai and Transformer type robots armor and protective shields; specific films and music such as Dune, Blade Runner, Ghost in The Shell, The City of Lost Children, Terminator and Portishead for mood, surreal vibe and message; and the quirkiness of Viktor&Rolf designs.

California-based footwear label Gee Wa Wa takes an architectural flair for its spring ’10 women’s collection.

The 20 styles offered stay true to the company’s bohemian vibe, featuring bright buckle sandals, metallic low heels and natural vegetable-tanned leather moccasins. The eco-friendly shoes, which range from $85 to $175, are available at select Nordstrom stores and other high-end retailers worldwide.

My personal favorite is the metallic sandal.

I ran across the beautiful and colorful jewelry of Amanda Assad Mounser who is based in New York. Although fall/winter 2009 is her premiere collection, she has been working in fashion for the last five years. I love her take on the “multi-chain” look along with her use of color.

This shoe was made for lovin….talk about your “walking statement.” Like poetry in motion, this splatter design beauty was created by co-founders and long-standing friends Natalia Barbieri and Jennifer Portman. They set out to design exquisite and sophisticated footwear of luxurious quality. They certainly accomplished their goal! The line is called Bionda Castana and can be found on the website.

Originally from Tanzania, Africa, Twiga started as an art collector and shifted to creating this beautiful, bold wooden jewelry that’s been popping up all over magazine spreads, department stores, and museum shops. Twiga has also founded The Mbinga Children’s Organization, a non-profit that builds schools in Tanzania. Philanthropy and great, artistic jewelry? I think I’m in love. Adorn your wrist with Vintage Fly bracelet. The focus of this piece is a sterling silver brooch found during one of the trips to vintage markets. Decorated with amethysts and set on a chunky sterling silver chain it is a stunning one-of-kind piece. A cluster of different types of chains is dangling off the fly as if forming a long tale. Due to the specific technique used by the designer, the bracelet resonates antique look.

Margiela and Laugesen’s most promising apprentice brings avant guarde to the forefront with a second collection of covetable pieces.

This collection has so many gorgeous textures that I barely know which one to comment on first. Ok, I do… it’s the lace.

Most times when I see this get used, it’s usually on a horrible body con dress or something to that effect – but how the designer worked with it here is so refreshing. Speaking of the designer, she is Lina Osterman, a former apprentice to artisans Margiela and Laugesen, who has started this second line of her own as a means to work outside of the confines of her Pudel line.

And taking advtange of that fact, she is; as I said before this is just a textural treat and is filled to the brim with covetable pieces.

I am particularly in love with the dress and knits. The linear detailing on some of the pieces is something special, and the fact that it is black detailing on black fabric, in turn adds quite a bit of depth and additional texture to the pieces.

I think the birth of Osterman’s second line to further her creative endeavors has proved to be a great idea and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her – and to see what she has for us in the future.

Thursday night at SoHo Grand Corey and I had the pleasure of meeting one of the designers from WUYORK, a completely fabulous line of bow ties out of New York.  These intricate designs can be worn by men and women, and are not just for the neck! We’ll be learning more about them very soon, but for now check out their site and see the S/S ‘09 Lookbook on Cult

So MTV has figured out how to replace Lauren Conrad. Her name is Jazmin, she has a fashion line, and she just might be the dumbest 20-year old in history.

House of Jazmin, a show that follows around an aspiring designer who seems about as vapid and devoid of fashion knowledge as Ed Hardy, will be hitting the airwaves on August 18th. Jazmin considers her collection “sophisticated and chic” according to W (WHAT THE FUCK!!! W IS INTERVIEWING THIS CHICK!!! OFFICIALLY CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS PUBLICATION GO). We consider her collection a Rachel Antonoff RIP OFF.

Here are some more quotes from Jazmin, the “designer” behind Li Cari:

It’s, like, really versatile. There are pieces that you could see on a 14-year-old girl or a 50-year-old woman. And I really try to create timeless pieces that you don’t look back and say, ‘What was I thinking when I wore that?’ You know, stuff that you can pass down to your children.

So wait, you expect a 14-year-old and a 50-year-old to wear your stuff? You’re sounding more like Ed Hardy already. (We haven’t forgotten that you’re already one foot in the grave Madonna. That young latin lover ain’t fooling anyone.). Jazmin continues:

I think my biggest influence and inspiration would be Coco Chanel because just, like, the cuts and the fabrics and everything are so, like, my personal style. And so it’s so, like, exciting to see all of her work and how she started with hats, and when I was young I started designing, like, sketches of perfume bottles. I was just attracted to design in general and so then as I got a little bit older it, like, went, like, all the way toward fashion.

Like totally, like Coco Chanel, was like, so like, sophisticated and like an inspiration and like, amazing, and like I like design, like her. Wait that last like, kind of like, made sense, like thats totally never like happened, like before, like…. (Jazmin’s head proceeds to spin around and explodes.)

Valou’s 3cap rings are making a huge appearance in the world of fashion lately, and being picked up by all sorts of fashion and music peeps: Dirk Mai (the first to wear this amazing ring), LIGHTS, Demi Lovato, Audrey Kitching, Nick Santino from A Rocket To The Moon, and Mandy Jiroux..and those were only the ones I could find photos of!  The mens rings run around $175, and the women’s $125, but it’s way worth it for the statement you’ll be making with this ring.  Definitely a cooler alternative to the over the knuckle two and three fingered rings everyone is wearing lately, if you wear a Valou ring, you’re sure to be asked about it.

Last night, the fashion people gathered at SoHo Grand to preview the new collection by Rad Hourani. Hourani told Style.com that this unisex line isn’t necessarily a diffusion line (priced from $100-400), but that “this is just more relaxed and easier to wear in cotton and jerseys.”  The line will be available in November online and in stores, perfect timing for these pieces, which include a lot of jackets, vests, super skinny jeans, t shirts, and perfectly draped shorts.  

Judging from the runway and all of the fashionable people there, must-haves for fall:

-guys in heels

-platforms

-destroyed tees

-partially shaved heads (for guys and girls)

-black, black, black

Tom Banwell’s cut out masks may be a little out of the box for every day life, but seem totally appropriate for editorials. These intricately cut masks made of leather sell on his Etsy store for under $50! That’s a steal, considering they allow you to live out all your other worldly childhood dreams – there is even a unicorn mask! Corey and I just got back from Capsule, and while we were incredibly impressed with the majority of the collections present, we both had a little soft spot for S***R Shoes. I think every girl dreads baiting suit shopping. Even if you love your body it is still so dull, every season I look for a bathing suit with a fresh, flattering style and the majority of the time I fail. But not this year, Zimmerman is everything I have been looking for. Incorporating bight prints, ruffles, cut outs, and uniquely placed ties into my beach routine I am automatically in love.

Very few designers are able to transverse the limitations of fashions cut and sew to create truly wearable pieces of art, but Attilla Design, an Etsy designer we just discovered might be one in the running. Not only limited to fashion, this designer has engaged in home furnishings and art with an aesthetic which challenges wearability yet leaves those who purchase it with a fulfilled sense of fashion entitlement. Raphael Young was first inspired to design shoes at the tender age of 14 after attending his first haute couture show. Trained under his uncle Alexandre Narcy, who was the head of Yves Saint Laurent’s shoe studio for 40 years, he even received some key advice from Mr. Laurent himself: “keep it simple.” He went on to work at various design houses in Italy before starting his own line.

When you’re working with your best friend since 5th grade, I guess anything can seem possible, which is essentially the story for designer Molly Yestadt and close friend/sales rep Jane Pincus. The duo are a match ready to advance the prevalence of millinery, hence the company, Yestadt Millinery. FashionIndie had the privilege of meeting with the Yestadt team to get the inside scoop!

With gorgeous hats donning that signature blue inside trim, it seemed rather necessary to ask Molly how she got into the field of millinery. Attending FIT and gaining training in the specific field, to Molly it seemed as though millinery was her only true option because it was the one thing she really loved. Hats are the “microcosm of a look”, she explains, finding the right words to articulate, “Why hats?” She goes on to explain that the entire process of creating the hat is really a special thing, that there’s a certain art to it.

And what is that art exactly? The designer gave us an inside look into how the whole hat-making process really takes place; it all begins with something called blocking. Blocking is much like creating you’re own little sculpture; however, instead of sculpting the next “David”, you’re creating that perfect finishing touch to an ensemble. Molly is sure to start each piece with an inspiration of color, as she hand dyes a large majority of the materials she works with and takes great pride in the fact that each and every piece is hand touched. The designer loves taking custom orders and says it really allows her to make something unique, as she boasts her customers generally give her a wide degree of artistic freedom.

So what’s next for Yestadt Millinery? With items shown in the Marc by Marc show, and some of their favorite pieces being worn on Rihanna’s head, they have high hopes for the future. In the forefront is this main goal to somehow make hats relevant, Molly doesn’t want these pieces to be “fringe items”.  “They’re supposed to keep pace with everything else,” she explains.

And as the designer herself is advancing quite well, she has a bit of advice to others out there: “Do what you love. It’s all possible as long as you don’t sleep,” she says with a grin.

Fuck the recession, I must own one of these Jennifer Behr headbands.  Seen all over Gossip Girl and worn by all sorts of celebrities, this season Behr gave her collection a little more edge. And I can’t say anything else but, I’m in love.

Danish designer Julie Eilenberger draws inspiration from early science fiction and old hollywood movies, creating a unique blending of eras and styles that one would not immediately associate. Black Swarovski crystals and foam shoulder pads accent Eilenberger’s sheer body conscious designs. Already showing at Berlin Fashion Week, Eilenberger still has two more years of design school.

Korean designer Jaeyoon Jeong opened up his first store in Nolita after studying at Drexel University and interning with Jean-Charles de Castelbajac in Paris. He started his label earlier this year and has finally opened a store at Spring and Mott in Nolita.  The store showcases his brilliantly structured S/S collection in an all white room (very sleek!), and the Fall line will be available in August.

Amy Thompson’s collection immediately made me think of Lady Gaga. The blonde wig with the blunt bangs was a tip off, but I can totally see Gaga rocking these amour-inspired pieces. The purple summer appropriate color scheme and the use of transparency is a refreshing surprise from the studded leather overload that seems to be everywhere.

Anastasia Chatzka, a Chicago designer that has worked with the likes of Betsey Johnson and Anna Sui, is making a splash in the headband world with these crazy decorated bird and bow bands.  A refreshing change from plain or simple bowed headbands, these are sure to get noticed, and become the perfect accessory!  They’re currently unavailable through Anastasia’s Etsy shop, but her online shop should be up soon! In the meantime, check out the headband collection, among other things, on her site.
