Designer Discovery: Claudia Pink
Claudia Pink’s Liverpool boutique is a zoo of oversize bangles and rings that would tempt Nicole Richie to trade in her first-born. Like many other designers, Claudia harvests different countries and for their vintage jewelry crops, sourcing pieces from as far back as the 1920’s. This regenerating stock makes for constant and unpredictable inspiration, as well as rare finds.
Pink (real name Claudia Windle) studied fashion at Leeds College of Art and Design, then learned jewelry-making at a bead shop. Enamored with the craft, she began traveling to exotic places like India and Thailand to collect jewelry. Her father’s antiquing job also helped fill out her vintage jewel library.
Pink, whose lookbook shots merge Daisy Buchanan with Cleopatra, churns out reworked and custom-designed — but always one-of-a-kind pieces. Her fist-sized gems and heavy metals invoke everything from gypsies to Arabian princesses to old school Hollywood.
