Designer: Hiro Sawatari
Though he just recently moved to Japan to spread his knowledge, Hiro Sawatari has always been a man with a vision. Almost two years ago, when Hiro moved to Japan, he had just finished working with Cindy Greene at New York’s Libertine in order to be well-versed in an industry he knew he was fully capable of making a mark in. Upon Hiro’s arrival in Tokyo, his career began to take a jump start; his signature line was released and soon after he began work on various other collections that spoke to his countless inspirations. As for Hiro’s inspirations, he says, “I have been always fascinated by Japanese design not only fashion, but architecture and product design, and I want to live in that environment like many artists go to NYC or pianists go to Vienna”.
Hiro’s latest collection is titled “Blue”. His line remains inspired by a picture he had taken in which the sea at dusk spoke to him. The clothing in this line is reflective of the picture that sat before him. Hiro used various design elements to correlate with ceratin areas of the picture. The collection is a head-on approach at reflection in its truest form. Through both elegant and laid back pieces, Hiro sticks with his goal as material was used to stress the subtle presence of dim light and color was used to reflefct the sea. Hiro truly spoke to the image throughout each piece in his collection.
