Designer Discovery: Iris Van Herpen

Iris Van Herpen

Of all those shown at this years fashion week, one collection no one will soon forget was that of , with it’s textured and sculpted pieces and dramatic hair and makeup. Made from materials like leather, iron, brass, chains and ‘hair’, the clothing, though not exactly wearable (where do you wear a black leather minidress with large gold brass wings?), was stunning and unlike anything else.

More art then fashion, models walked down the runway in black, navy, white, gold and steel creating a serious, underground club feel. My favorite look was a butterfly dress with silver chains and patchwork leggings, that although not very functional, provided in beauty what it lacked in coverage.

About the Author: Founder and main dude at Fashion Indie, Daniel Saynt began his career in fashion at the tender age of 14, when he worked in the stockroom for some unnamed fashion whorehouse. His distaste for the mainstream quickly festered until he decided enough was enough, denouncing all mainstream fashion lines (unless the stuffs on sale or just down right irresistible or free, you can't say no to free).
