When your chief design inspiration comes from childhood toys, something unique, and maybe slightly strange, is bound to be created. Margaux Lange says that Barbie Dolls played a significant role in developing her creative energy. She is fascinated with Barbie’s celebrity status as a cultural icon in American society. Her peculiarly charming accessory line is composed of pieces from her childhood memories.”I enjoy the funny juxtaposition of wearing the body, on the body,” Lange says. “Barbie has become the accessory instead of being accessorized. I take pleasure in the contrast and contradiction of something mass-produced being transformed and revealed as a unique, handmade, wearable piece of art.”

Story by Amanda Gabriele

I stole my first pair of platforms from the Spice Bus in 1997 when Anglophilia was all the rage. Collector of vintage bags, vinyl and kitchen appliances. My dream of becoming a butcher is momentarily on hiatus so I can teach you how to wear muumuus and apply false eyelashes. Follow me on Twitter @CrystlMeatballs.
