Spring & Clifton was launched in early 2004 by designer Michelle Zacks. She first earned her stripes as a fashion editor at Sportswear International Magazine, and then as a collaborator to labels like Nicole Miller, C. Ronson and Alife. Recognizing a gap in the knitwear market, she set out to create knits that were new and unexpected, yet comfortable and familiar.

Zacks’ varied exposure taught her the importance of telling a story through clothing. “I want people to have an emotional connection to Spring & Clifton….I want them to fall in love,” she says. Spring & Clifton is inspired by old souls with young hearts, and draws on Zacks’ life experiences. The nostalgic references to her 70’s/80’s California childhood are reinvented by the modern spirit of downtown New York City–her home for over a decade now.

Spring & Clifton is committed to the idea that laughter is sexy, and escape is sometimes necessary. Zacks herself finds escape in travel, music, art, and time spent with family and friends. The playfulness of her own personality is evident in each and every collection.
