Designer Discovery: Steampunk

I’ll admit it, these 19th century inspired wrist-watches by have got to be the craziest things I’ve seen in a long time. Talk about hardware! These watches incorporate materials from leather to metals like copper and even foam pieces! Although many of the artisanal pieces are a bit impractical to wear on a daily basis, we must agree that these watches have a very appealing aesthetic! They might look straight out of ’s animated move , but I wouldn’t mind seeing a brave soul sport one of these crazy time pieces!

Thanks Gizmodo!

About the Author: After dropping $31 for Valencia orange juice and strawberry-banana yogurt at a Greenwich Village Gristedes, begging her parents for nearly $50,000 a year to attend America's dream school, NYU, and wasting $26.50 on a lost MetroCard, there is nothing more priceless than Kirby's arrival at Fashion Indie. As a Buffalo native, where the God-awful Ugg Boots slop around the slushy April snow, Kirby made the executive decision to relocate to an atmosphere accepting of crocodile thigh-high gladiator sandals (apologies to her dog who stuck in the suburbs of Buffalo sleeping in the shadows of the stairwell). Kirby is currently exploiting the opportunities New York City has to offer. From running into Gossip Girl cast members at the NYU gym, to coincidentally modeling in Fashion Indie's Brooklyn Bridge show, and finally to pursuing her dream of becoming the new Anna Wintour, Kirby is taking no prisoners...except maybe for her roomate's Marc by Marc jacket, which by the way Andrea, you probably won't see again.

I am loving the antique look of these watches. Now, the only quesiton left is: What the heck do I wear with this?

So perhaps I am just reading this incorrectly… But Steampunk is a genre, not a designer.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk

And the Japanese didn’t invent it. I know it’s shocking, a nerdy thing that the Japanese didn’t invent?

Am I just reading this wrong, and Steampunk is the name of a specific Japanese company which produced this specific watch?

Anyway, this just made me wonder why I subscribe to this silly blog, “before the trend” *giggles*

mayeb before it hits mainstream trendyness.. its been trendy in geek circles for years.

and this means the fashion included….

I mean its trendy enough that I had already attended a steampunk themed party within the year…. here are a couple of the photos of my geeky friends and myself in steampunk style

We definitely know steampunk is a genre of fashion, but I think this might actually be the name of the company that makes these.

Def the name of the company that makes these. And no one stated that the Japanese invented the ‘trend,’ the company that makes these is Japanese. And Zita, we weren’t sparking this already popular trend, we were letting our readers know about this particular company that makes these awesome watches…

The name of the designer is Haruo Suekichi and he has made thousands of watches, each with an individual name. The company is called Steampunk. Read an interview with him here.
