dior couture fall 2009 was a wamp, wamp, wamp.

With summer slowly slipping through the cracks of our fingers, Fall 2009 Couture shows are beginning to debut. I was fairly upset with John Galliano’s collection for Dior. First of all, several of these pieces (like the silk tops) are not even worthy of being debuted during a Couture show. The pieces are bland (despite the bold colorings) and seem more fitting for a Ready-To-Wear show rather than Haute Couture. The solid colored skirt suits seem to remind me more of something my grandmother would wear to a formal rather than a Parisian chic ensemble. My biggest pet-peeve is the fact that the models are half-dressed. Was Galliano lazy? Is he broke? Galliano said that he was inspired to debut his pieces with the lingerie by a photograph of models hurrying to get dressed backstage. Somehow, this vivid inspiration doesn’t come across the same way to the consumer. If Galliano was debuting a couture lingerie line, then this may be justifiable. It makes me sad that a mediocre show such as this can debut with such positive feedback whereas a home namesake couture line such as Christian Lacroix is put out of business. Galliano needs to take a refresher and debut whimsical pieces reminiscent of Miss Dior Cherie and the Lady Dior advertisements.
