[Indie Fix] Going Green Has Never Been So Fashionable
Earth Day may have come and gone, but there are so many stylish ways that you can save the world, while looking indielicious at the same time. Here are a couple of our choice Al Gore approved tips.
1. Buy Organic: Buying organic is no longer about hemp dresses and hippie attire. While the treehuggers may have started the trend back when Moonchild and Starfinder where becoming the popular baby names to the stoner generation, hip new designers are taking the idea and applying it to fashion you might actually wear. When you buy organic you are picking up an item made from fabrics that were created without pesticides. So your cotton tee is free from DDT or any other eco-unsavvy chemicals farmers might add to their crops. You can find some Organic Jeans for your next global warming protest or for hitting the clubs in your hybrid from LoomState.

Loomstate Jeans: 100% Organic, 100% Indie.
2. Buy Vintage: Shopping vintage is one of our favorite ways to reuse and recycle. You will not only find some kick booty cool originals that no one in your fashion club will be wearing, you’ll also be saving the environment by preventing the creation of new fabrics and designs from massive corporations, which reduces waste and sends a message to the big boys that originality is so much cooler than cookie cutter fashion. Check out New York Vintage, 117 West 25th Street, bet 6th & 7th for some local rocking styles from the past 100 years.

3. Buy Reconstruction: Reconstructive fashion is a growing trend amongst emerging fashion heads. Taking from the old and bringing on the new is a great way to make a statement about your love for the environment. Our favorite reconstructionist in New York would have to be party girl, wild child Hillary Flowers. Her take no prisoners fashion approach has garnered her much attention and her bare-all fashion shows are nightlife destinations stalked by the likes of ClubPlanet, Joonbug, and Gawker. Hillary Flowers has recently opened a store called The Changing Room, 3 Centre Market Street, New York. Visit the store to check out Hillary’s collection and a few items from some of her favorite fashion designers.
