NY Fashion Week Spring 08: Eventide

New York-based duo, Sarah Spratt and Christian Stroble presented a collection that took Eventide away from their 1920s silhouettes and 1980s metallics. Scarlet dyed linen and plum tops brought this collection together, suggesting the designers took cues for the Fall collections of designers such as Zac Posen.
Black, shark-skin leggings completed looks, but
the addition may have been unwelcomed as more women leave the restriction of leggings opting for more full length skirts. By the end of fashion week I’ll have a more defined opinion on the continuation of the eighties staple that may have well over stayed it’s welcome, but for now, it worked in Eventide and it might work in the spring.
Other key elements that brought this collection together was the oragami inspired details which ranged from full triangular folds on a black skirt, to small accents on dresses and tops.  Look for more oragami as the Asian Invasion of fashion designers (Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Christopher Wang, Do.Ri, Thakoon) continues to dominate in the States forcing traditional American designers to rethink detailing and fabric use.
