NY Fashion Week Spring 08: Form

         September 5th, 2007

I heart Form. With Jerry Tam at the helm (former Imitation of Christ, Zac Posen, and Patrick Robinson designer), the collective of New York based designers include former Helmut Lang photographer Erik Madigan Heck who offered his unique eye as inspiration and provided the backdrop for this collection. Mixing “couture tailoring with avent-garde concepts” the tour de force that is Form has been on the Fashion Indie radar for quite some time and for good reason, they design some amazing pieces.

I arrived at their garden showcase at the Soho Grand and was treated to nine works which incorporated “principals set forth by the Russian artists working during the 1920s Constructivist Movement.” Geometry and the ideas that form modernity where the steel beams that kept this collection together. Chartreuse was a big color for this collective, as flowing gowns interlocked with structured skirts with intricate sewn patterns. The black organza and metallic grey taffeta bent curve cocktail dress was my favorite piece and reminded me of the complexity I had recently witnessed at a Rodarte trunk show. This is one Indie collective I hope to see more of come Oscar season.
