New York Fashion Week Spring 2008: Fashion Rocks

The theme of Fashion Rocks must have been “Mismatches” cause all I saw on stage were things that make you say, hmm. Teri Hatcher with 50 Cent (desperate housewife seeks gansta rapper for midnight rendezvous), Fergie with Aerosmith (dudes look like a lady), and odd ball host Jeremy Priven (was no one else available or did they think Tom Ford finally got some hair plugs). With the oddities aside, the show was one of the better events of New York Fashion Week.
Highlights included Jennifer Lopez and Maroon 5. Alicia Keys proved she’s still in the music biz (thank god) with a new single and a rendition of Black Magic Woman which she performed with Santana. Jennifer Hudson made The Beatles “Come Together” come alive for a new generation while defying the laws of biology with a dress that must have come together with about 15 girdles (Not saying there’s anything wrong with big girls. But damn, you got money now Jenny. It might be about time to hire a personal trainer). Everyone and their mother agreed that hip hop violinist Miri Ben-Ari was amazing. I just didn’t understand why she chose to perform the “Star Spangled Banner”. Seemed like an odd choice, but hell, it was only one in a night filled with odd match-ups and mix-ups.
