Designer Discovery: Cheap Monday’s not so Cheap Qoniak

         November 5th, 2007

The watchful eye of WeAreTheMarket.com, by far the bestest brand pimps on the blogosphere (for good reason too, the sites run by the PR darlings Brand Pimps and Media Whores), just gave me a little tip on Qoniak, a Swedish discovery that has reinvented the way to look good in denim. A mix of eighties style with fresh design, this jeanswear designer has really challenged the norm with a collection fo grey denim hoodies, super-high waisted jeans for women and (gulp) men, and faded grey ponchos. If any of these looks seem familiar it’s cause it was designed by Cheap Monday’s Örjan Andersson. “Fashion design is quite new for Sweden,” said designer Andersson. “There are no big designers to look up to, so we’ve created a new platform. I always go my own way. I like to create new things and ideas, and I have a vivid imagination.” This collection is a bit more lux than Monday’s, which means it’ll cost you a little more to look good in it, but it’s well worth it. Not here in the US, yet, but I’m sure Opening Ceremony will be featuring the collection in a few months. They’re good like that
