Designers You Should Know: Marios Schwab

         November 16th, 2007

Yeah, yeah I love the CFDA and all it’s wonderfulness with Vogue and the fashion fund, but it’s amazing how many of these fashion money “giveaways” take place. Just last week Fashion Indie and Polartec awarded some cash to Rebecca Turbow for her amazing creation (which was 100% Polartec). Across the pond and through the woods the Swiss have their own little design competition. The Swiss Textile Prize is awarded to top designers who invigorate the textiles field. This years winner was Marios Schwab. Check out Fashion Wire Daily’s report on the winner.
“Schwab’s Spring Summer 2008 collection “Vigour-mortis” was an imaginative tour, where the designer took the current obsession with body conscious clothes in a new direction - under the skin. Thermo image T-shirt dresses, anatomical revealing detailing and fabrics that featured veins and nerves all made for a stunning collection, and one that would ultimately win him Europe’s richest award…. Schwab beat out stiff competition from five other designer nominees - Ann-Sofie Back, Bless, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Ute Ploier and Gareth Pugh - to win the prize, valued at 100,000 Euros, or $142,000 at current exchange rates. All six designers staged catwalk shows of their spring summer 2008 collections in Zurich this past weekend, as part of the Stella Fashion Night. Previous winners of the award, organized jointly by the Swiss Textile Federation and media partner Annabelle, Switzerland’s leading fashion title, have included Christian Wijnants, Raf Simons and, most recently, Bruno Pieters.”
