Rock Star Legend Gets Crafty with DIY Jacket

         November 18th, 2007

lbwomanHanging around Patricia Field’s extravaganza last week, I kept running up to every well dressed somebody inquiring who (or what?!?) they were wearing. At her gatherings there tends to be a bevy of do-it-yourself types who enjoy wearing their “art” on their sleaves. This sense of style and dedication to dressing will always lay close to my heart, since I am a very tactile individual when it comes to design. Sure the ultimate goal is to make high quality clothing like that of Azzedine Alia at some point, but downtown’s charm has always relied on crafty creativity.
Its a personal signature to say the least.

By the end of the party my eyes became fixated on a unique jacket with a stunning print of a softcore 70’s female on the back. The front of the jacket was all punked out in faux leopard. The designer behind the piece was none other than legendary rock photographer Leee Black Childers, who originally sewed it up himself from a wall hanging. He claims he can’t dress for shit so once in a while he’ll just create completely bizarre things that are always destined to become conversation pieces. He paired his outfit with Trash and Vaudville leopard shoes. Truly a savant who enjoys pushing the limits of style … Rock & Roll never dies and Punk will always live on!!!
