The Big Payoff for Fashion Blogging

Awhile back I wrote about a mother daughter duo knit wear design team here on Fashion Indie. Carasan is the brand name, and all their products are hand knit. They were so thankful and touched that I had kind inspirational words to share with our indie community on both here and Angel Lust PR, that I got a nice big present in the mail from them. This is just a taste of one of the things they sent me. A creme white flapper like hat that keeps me sooo warm, I paired it with one of my Angel Lust pieces, an embroidery metallic denim jacket. A big warm thanks to my BFF actress,Kat Seelos for modeling our design work.

did no one inform you that taking swag is wrong and discredits your objectiveness? yes, i know -everyone accepts ‘gifts’ around the holidays and it was a ‘thank you’ to something you already wrote about. but, just re-read your title here ‘payoff’ -totally wrong word. you’ve taken an otherwise completely taboo ritual and blatantly exposed yourself. the proper thing would have been to hold some sort of contest or something -benefits being twofold =your readers love you more and more people are exposed to the product and become devoted consumers. especially since this is just a ‘taste’ of the thingS they sent you. look, not hating i actually write this out of love -i’m a blogger too and that’s exactly why i bother with this. the citizen journalist is supposed to be a response to a sullied media whose ‘objectiveness’ caters to advertisers money. Also, PR is one of the most carefully thought-out, premeditated industries with every angle a consideration. always keep in mind the public relations stigma that the media has: don’t believe everything you read/see on T.V. and don’t believe anything you read on the internet…we need to work on spinning the latter statement in our direction with a foundation of objectiveness. this story is bad PR for bloggers.

Very educated and well put purple candcanes. You should know the whole story first before you completely judge someone publicly online for the future. I am donating a good amount of luxury yarn to this young lady and have written many long letters of thanks and told her she sent way too much. Pay off was the wrong word to use thank you for correcting. I don’t get paid to blog at the moment. I’ve also made it a point to wear her piece to Bendel’s and Sak’s where some sale’s people where fascinated,so I proceeded to tell them the story , and leave her web info with them. I’ve taken free spare time to forward her work to Nylon mag as well as show it to places that I sell at. Any press I’ve gotten or anyone whose helped me has received something of mine in return. What goes around will come around. Charity auctioning is a great idea and actually working on a non profit cause for breast cancer in the future. Wow I thought I did a good thing for Carasan. Please do ask her yourself.

In conclusion I thought about sending it back and did tell her she sent WAY TOO MUCH!!! But thats just insulting.

Sorry If I’ve offended you or anyone but the story is one with a much bigger picture. And All the pieces will be shown but I only have so much time in one day. Showing each piece on different days is actually more exposure.

OMG!!! Cassandra and I did not think that sending a Christmas gift to someone who has done so much for us was a sin! Sorry to those bloggers who think we as a very small design house we did something so wrong.
The fact is this: this past year we were going to walk away from Carasan..you know like close the doors, find something else to do other then be sh-t on by those out there who will not open the doors to up and coming designers. It is not so easy out here when you don’t want to sell out. We don’t want to have our garments made in China and places like that, don’t want to be mass market landfill, but have a quality collection that we feel good about having our name on at the end of the day. If it were not for Angel Lust and what she wrote, and her support over these last 5 months, we may have just walked away. She and a few other bloggers over the last few months have given us new hope to stay in the game. But, it was Angle Lust and her constant support on those days when we didn’t want to even leave the studio…or get out of bed, that helped to keep us going. She alone did that…and so yes, we did want to do something nice for her for Christmas, we wanted to say thank you…not just from us but for every designer and friend that she has helped! And it was not tons of stuff, a winter hat, knit neck wrap, and a sweater to go with one of her designs.
Oh that is soooo much stuff…We don’t think it is even enough to say THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO! And if purple candycane is not happy, well too bad.. Sometimes it is nice to know that all of your work as a blogger may really help someone…And as for Charity auctioning….we give more then we sell every year, because we are a small up -and coming company! There is a charity auction right now going on for the 4 legged victims of the LA/CA area fires…and it is there due to another blogger..
so please go bid on that…we would all love it..they need the money.
But at the end of the day, this is Christmas and a time to say thank you, thank you, thank you…to those who mean so much to you. And the fact is…Angel Lust is our Angel..and we love her for everything she does to help others everyday and NEVER ASKS FOR ANYTHING IN RETURN!
