Corey Kennedy: New Face of Urban Decay

25 Jan 2008

cory-asphyxia.jpg

17 year old, Corey Kennedy, clubster, fashion icon, MySpace star and Nylon covergirl is now also the face of Urban Decay, the makeup brand for girls who don’t want to go unnoticed.

So whats the deal with this girl anyway?

As Mr. Saynt asks me, “Would you watch the Corey Kennedy show?”. No, I don’t think I would. Not that the ads don’t look hot in all their airbrushed glory, but I have to wonder if it’s the girl herself, or just the makeup?

Would you want Corey on TV?

Viktor & Rolf Lash Out

24 Jan 2008

WWD just reported that the dynamic duo Viktor & Rolf are moving into … false eyelashes?

“The Dutch design duo and its beauty license holder, L’Oréal, will come out with three different designs for peepers in late spring for the Shu Uemura brand (also owned by the French beauty giant). The yet-to-be unveiled limited edition collection, inspired by Viktor & Rolf’s spring fashion line, includes styles called Wing, Wing 2 and Rhombus. They will retail for 75 euros, or $109 at current exchange, apiece.”

Couture winking? Think it could work?

The Inner-views of Fashion: Make-up Artist Samantha Lennon

21 Jan 2008

Wanted for being the hotness

Continuing in our series of fashion interviews with fashion professionals, we caught up with Samantha Lennon our rock metal enthusiast/beauty expert to ask her about being a make-up artist in this ruff and tumble NY landscape. She gave us insight on Britney, her must have accessory and some tips on getting camera ready in five minutes or less. To hire Ms. Lennon for any future joblets, click here to visit her MySpace.
Name: Samantha Lennon

Company Name: Samantha Lennon Makeup

Years as a Make-up Artist: 8+

FI: What got you into your craft?

SL: I would say a combination of the metal music scene I grew up in as well as my fashion background and surroundings. I also live and was born & raised in New York City.

FI: Where does your inspiration come from?

SL: My inspiration comes from everyone around me - all of the average hardworking women who have desires and goals to rule the world on a daily basis. It comes from working with so many talented photographers, wardrobe stylists, and models, and just walking down the street each day absorbing the transitions through which this city is constantly going.

FI: Could a fresh coat of make-up prevent Britney from looking like a trainwreck?

SL: I would actually prefer an embroidered paper bag.

FI: What tips would you give someone who only has 5 minutes to apply in the morning?

SL: Moisturizer, foundation primer under eyes and T-zone area followed by a little concealer. Then cream blush, gloss or lipstick, a little brow pencil if needed and of course: 2 coats of mascara!

FI: What is the most important tool in your arsenal?

SL: Tough question for makeup artists- Definitely the 217 MAC blending brush, but my most important overall tool has got to be the arsenal with the wheels to get all my tools around ☺

FI: Best current Make-Up trend?

SL: I have never really been into “trends.” I am more of an overall observer. Right now I would have to say softer, more confined matted eyes, matted red/coral color lips, and more contoured perfected skin.

FI: If you could start any trend, which would it be?

SL: For more people to sharing their knowledge freely with others

FI: Models or Musicians? Who’s more fun to work on?

SL: I can’t choose! I have worked on both because I also work in the music industry. Musicians are more laid back, but are more careful with their image. They generally have more say in a shoot as opposed to models. They also tend to show more personality and we share a lot in common. Music is my first true love and passion. Makeup came along soon after. Models, however, are open to everything and it’s more of an overall team effort. I definitely learned most of what I know from the world of Fashion. It is what I received my degree in. Sometimes it’s better to be able to be a part of something amazing overall instead of getting a job done, which is what musicians’ shoots tend to be about. Above all I am lucky to be a part of both and will continue do so.

Easy 4some

07 Jan 2008

I love when a line keeps it very basic. Like the one from DIANA B. Their motto is CLEANSE. HYDRATE. NOURISH. TRANSFORM. And yes, all in caps.

CLEANSE = Foaming Facial Sugar Scrub

HYDRATE = Hydrating Toner

NOURISH = Face Cream

TRANSFORM = Eye Cream

Now I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine washing my face with a scrub let alone a sugar scrub everyday. I didn’t try it so I can’t comment on it. The ones I did try were the Face Cream ($90/3oz) and Eye Cream ($85/.9oz). I like using them both at night. Neither contains filler ingredients and are noncomedogenic (beauty talk for non pore clogging). Available @ luckyscent.com

Benefits of the Face Cream – ingredients include algae extracts, nourishing oils of sweet almond, jojoba, Evening Primrose, and Shea Butter to name a few. Seems to work beautifully for this time of year.

Benefits of the Eye Cream – same as above but also contains ones to help tone down dark circles. And it has a slight cooling effect when applied. So de-puff away!

New Years Resolution: Simplify with Suki’s Naturals

02 Jan 2008

The SUKI’S NATURALS line was created out of frustration and sensitivity - Frustration at the lack of products that actually worked and Suki’s sensitivity to the ones she tried on her skin. And a lot of people out there agree with her as the line has quite a following and we are starting to see why. The Transformative Facial Clay ($36.65/1.7oz @ sukisnaturals.com) is an all-in-one mask.

It’s a cleanser, a spot treatment and a facial mask. It uses only the best ingredients under the sun like organic rose petals, kaolin, organic oat milk, chamomile and spirulina among others, to really clean the skin. And the aftermath? Fresh not tight. And like most of her line, this one is pure Vegan.

Oh What A Skeptic I Was…

12 Dec 2007

My eyebrow waxer seems to move 5 miles further away from me every few years. It’s gotten to the point where going out of my way for her services is like taking a small weekend trip. So I’ve had to resort to finding someone close by. Not an easy feat.

I have found one that will do for the time being but I got to her through experiencing quite a few bad ones along the way. One bad one left one of my brows way too skinny. I figured I could use some help in that department and then I came across this next product (great timing!).

OSMOTICS is a cosmeceutical line and this one is breaking ground in the category of hair loss - eyelash and eyebrow hair loss.

FNS Nutrilash ($38/28 doses @ osmotics.com) is a serum that is made up of vitamins, minerals and amino acids that helps provide the foundation for healthy lashes and brows to grow. The formula is housed in single-use tubes and the supply is good for the 28 days.

Do I see a difference? I do and my latest eyebrow waxer said that she does too. It could be that the missing strands are growing back or that this serum is really helping it along. I think I’m going with the latter.

Best In Brow

25 Nov 2007

We have always said how important cleanly groomed brows are for your face. Now you can have them all the time, especially when you can’t get to a groomer. And who more famous for sculpting and shaping celebs brows could come out with a kit like this? ANASTASIA of course. If you are reading this site, you must be familiar with her work as she is quoted in all the beauty magazines and seems to be the one that really brought the whole brow craze to the mainstream. Her All About Brows Kit ($75 @ sephora.com) is exactly need to get and keep your brows in line and presentable in your own home. In the cloth zippered case you get the brow stencils, something I am still challenged with to this day, her Angled Brush to fill in the arch, Tweezers, her MatteBrow Pencil, Brow Pencil Duo, the Brow Gel to keep hairs in place, and her Eye Lights Camille Brow Pencil. Available in 3 different shade kits.
