Indie Holiday Picks: Lace Like Jewelry

17 Dec 2007

bracelet 2

While I hit Dernier Cri on 869 Washington Street in NYC’s Meat Packing District I found these gorgeous bracelets I need to own by designer Saya Hibino. This line is a little lingerie and a little rock and roll, my two favorite inspirations. With Christmas around the corner now is the perfect time to get your fashionista BFF one of these unique pieces.

Thank you Ms. Stacia Valle owner of Dernier Cri for introducing these pieces to us. I haven’t seen them anywhere else in the fashion circle!!!

Indie Picks: Mr. Piano Man

12 Dec 2007

Billy Joel (circa 1970s): Hey Elton.

Elton John (also circa 1970s): Hey Billy Boy, big boy, Billy Joel, the bigster, the man and legend, Billy Boyster.

BJ: Stop it.

EJ: Sorry.

BJ: So how’s married life treating ya?

EJ: Good, very good, lot’s of, um, vaginal intercourse and such. Good times,
good times. (eyes wander and then focuses on Billy’s chest) Hey that there’s a really nice t-shirt you got there. Is that Captain Kirk? I love me that Captain Kirk. He can travel to my final frontier any day. (trailing off)

BJ: What was that?

EJ: Oh, nothing, not anything, nada.

BJ: Elton what’s that around your neck? Are those Piano keys?

EJ: Yeah, you like it. It’s like I’m the Piano Man now.

BJ: ….

EJ: (Continues to stare hungrily at Billy boys chest)

BJ: …

EJ: If you really like it maybe we can trade? I’ve always seen you as more of a Piano Man anyways.

BJ: Sounds groovy. What can I give you?

EJ: What about that t-shirt? I can use me some Kirk right about now.

BJ: …

EJ: (Continues to stare hungrily at Billy boys chest)

BJ: Um, ok?!? Let’s just make it quick, It’s freezing out here and my nips are popping.

EJ: — maybe I can lick them for you –

BJ: What was that?

EJ: Huh? Oh, sorry just thinking about stamps.

BJ: Okay, Rocket man here’s your shirt. I’ll catch ya on the flip side.

My favorite little item from the new Net-a-Payless is the Tempura shoe. It’s only $40 bucks and available online at Payless.com. Definitely worth checking out before they make like an H&M Cavalli and eBay.

Indie Gift Guide: So Much Better Than A Murse

19 Nov 2007

I hate murses. I’m not talking about male nurses (even though male+nurse does = murse). I’m talking about those smaller than a messenger bag, but not quite a clutch man bags that have crept into our society and taken hold of the gentleman who is desperately seeking a place to hold his cell phone, IPOD, planner, keys, wallet and condoms (hey sometimes you need more than just one). Thankfully the gods have shined kindness on us and have crafted a wearable, concealable holster for transporting your goodies. The YMYL holster is the coolest thing ever. When wearing it you totally feel like your James Bond (of course acting like you are will only further your mothers concerns). It’s sleek, unisex (come on ladies let us have this one), comes in brown and black leather and will undoubtedly increase your package (mind out of the gutters people). The perfect gift for the man who’s been considering the purchase of a murse, man bag, or mote lately.
The YMYL Unisex Holster For Your Music or Your Life, $129, is available online at YMYLHolster.com

Fine Coating: 10 Winter Coat Picks from Indie Designers

19 Nov 2007

So last night I was getting ready for yet another party (Fashion Indie knows a good time) and realized that it’s freezing outside, I then realized that no matter how fashionable the outfit (and believe me I dressed to be the gem of the night), the only garment visible is the outerwear, which means that my coat needed to be as fabulous as me. This seasons trends gives you many options on what to choose from, the most popular styles are definitely the the raincoat (perfect for the post-global warming winter) and the classic peacoat. Both trends come in many fabrications and colors, with many designers doing their own variations and updates. I personally own a black wool Mackage peacoat, which has been perfect for the New York nightlife scene. Check out these ten pciks from some of my favorite designers.
