“Sleek hair gave ladies like Elizabeth Banks, Amanda Seyfried and Nicole Richie a very polished look that went great with their wardrobe choices,” says Shannon Gilmore, stylist at Gatsby Salon. A step by step how to after the jump.

1. Apply a smoothing serum to damp hair before drying.

2. Create the part you will use for your finished style (a side part works well).

3. Begin drying hair in a downward direction, keeping this part throughout the blowdry. This will make the part distinguished and prominent as the style shows.

4. Once hair is completely dry, use a fine toothed comb to slick hair back into a ponytail. Use a thin elastic to secure the ponytail in the middle of your head.

5. Loosely wrap hair around the elastic to create a bun and secure with bobby pins.

6. Use a medium hold hairspray to lock hair in place and mist a shine spray to illuminate hair.

7. Add a metallic or glittery head band (like Elizabeth Banks) to accentuate the look.
