The fact is music may have been a passion of theirs BEFORE they became famous and acting may just be apart of their artistic expression as well. As you stated, Ed Westwick put his musical ambitions on hold for the show, which means this WAS apart of his life before gossip girl. He has a commitment to the production.I am a fan of the filthy youth and was so before I found out it was Ed Westwick's band. As for Taylor Momsen the fact she tried out for Hannah Montanna, is that not a hint that singing may also be something she's interested in? And finally Leighton Meester has even released a single, written a song or expressed interest in singing in something other than a musical and I'm not even sure she's done that.
