Introducing design duo behind the label Je Suis Belle
Who They Are: Dalma Dévényi and Tibi Kiss, two young fashion design students, who met while attending the Moholy-Nagy University of Applied Arts in Budapest, Hungary.
What they do: Dalma Dévényi and Tibi Kiss draw ideas from historical trends and reapply them to fit the lifestyle of today’s woman, reimagining style as a deconstruction of past stereotypes to create an image that will lead fashion towards a progressive frontier, paying special attention to harmonizing forms style and lines. Je Suis Belle combines pure quiet elegance with the freedom of playful self-confidence.
In English Je suis belle means “I am beautiful”, but for the two designers from Budapest it refers to a woman’s sense of Self, her state of Being and to her Aesthetic. They design apparels to meet an ever-growing demand that seeks gracefulness and playfulness as an identification of one’s femininity, meanwhile reinforcing a sense of self-confidence, desire for originality, taste for quality as parts of one’s everyday lifestyle.
The team won the first price at the Hans Christian Andersen International Fashion Designer Show and Competition, held in Denmark in 2005, also completed a semester at the London College of Fashion during Spring 2006. In 2007 Dalma & Tibi were named Top Young Fashion Designers of the Year in Hungary, while 2009 brought their first off-schedule presentation during London Fashion Week. Their pieces are already available in Berlin, Vienna, Zurich and Basel besides Budapest while the next season will bring Je Suis Belle to London and Rome as well.
Why you should care: They are young and exciting designers who may just be the “next big thing” from Eastern Europe. They just showed their collection during Berlin Fashion Week.
