Is FashionIndie.com The Most Hated Blog in Fashion?

PBR. Check. Cigarette. Check. Internet Celeb Wannabe. Double Check.

So some 18 year old, internet celebrity wannabe whose been suckling on Cory Kennedy’s fame teet for a couple of years has decided to bitch about FashionIndie.com. As is our nature, we’ve decided to respond with shitty pictures of the celebunot and let you in on her letter.

You know you’re doing your job right in fashion if you’re hated (ie; Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, Naomi Campbell), which is why we’re so excited when we get hate-mail. Of course, this letter borderlines on liable, so we might have to call the lawyers in, but regardless, it’s a good dose of bashing from a chick who’s managed to get her lips off of photographers zoom lenses long enough to get in a couple words on why we suck.

She’s asking all you indie lovers to quit reading FashionIndie.com cause we’re mean. Yeah, we know we’re assholes, we don’t try to sugarcoat shit, but hell, it’s not cause we’re overweight failed designers who need to get laid, it’s cause we really are assholes. Check out the hate post below.

I blog for a living. I have for years. I have a “blogroll,” I visit each morning. It’s a list of sites I have compiled over the years that I enjoy the content and or writers of. Like any blogger or e-journalist, i pull stories and news-worthy items from these sources. I then share my personal take on said items with you, my readers.

Sometimes I bitch and moan how the internet is stealing my soul and whatnot. Blah blah shut up, Sarah. My goal is humor. I am sharing these things to make people laugh. I am not trying to be a bitch. BUT, sometimes things i say/write have a bitchy jaded undertone. I acknowledge that. I curb it as best i can. Bitchiness. Jadedness. Periods happen.

Fashion Indie is a site with alot of potential. They have cash, visibility, content galore. If unfamiliar, check it out. It fascinates me what they chose to NOT do with the site. The undertone is SO beyond my often jaded sometimes period fueled bitchiness. The tone is nasty. I am not clear if the writers are overweight and beyond unattractive. Or whether they are failed pop stars with angst. Perhaps, the site sent them to a seminar taught by Perez Hilton. I don’t know.

But my god, someone needs to get laid over there.

I have never taken a website off my blogroll until Fashionindie. RIP man. My suicidal thoughts have decreased tenfold, since. You won’t be missed.

To fashionindie: encourage your writers to start Livejournals perhaps. offer gym memberships? Botox is fairly economical? Or just ask for resumes before hiring!

There is a fine line between sarcastic and mean. If you can’t see it. Get out some chalk out and draw it.

Sarah, we’re not trying to be sarcastic.

We give our writers a lot of creative license to fuel their angst, and boy does it feel good to get shit off our chest. Sometimes, we cross the line, but fuck it, if you can’t push some boundaries online, then where can you? Listen, we’ll be the first to call a spade a spade, we’re not trying to be liked by all, we’re not attempting to be the next Fashionista.com, we’re just after that small percentage of folks who like an honest opinion. Here’s the deal, you stick to figuring out whose snickerdoodle you have to suck to get into clubs, we’ll stick to bashing people.

Also folks, only a small handful of our posts (like this one) are filled with the type of nastyness that would get you to take us off your blogroll. It’s our opinion pieces that are filled with hot fire, and if you don’t like what we have to say, yell, scream and call us out on being dicks. If we agree we’ll probably apologize, but for the most part, we want to hear more from you, than we want you to hear from us.

Hugs and Disses,

Daniel Saynt

We really don’t. I know she was in Nylon magazine a few months ago. She’s some sort of LA promoter with hipster royalty ties. Could care less really, it’s just great she took time out to bash us as she did, she obviously wants us to answer back, which is what we did. We’re not big fans of taking the high road here at FashionIndie.com, it’s all about the bash.

    “…they have cash…”

We have money??? That’s news to me. Thanks for letting me know Cory Kennedy/Hanna Beth person!

I find the ‘…periods happen..’ line very funny. Seeing that our two ‘harshest’ writers are men (Corey and Daniel).

It just looks like another case of blogger on blogger hate. But I’m guessing unlike her, we have lawyers…

This is not personal, we don’t bash other blogs and don’t feel as though other blogs should bash us, unless they really have good reason. She should at least mention a post that she disagrees with, plus we have about 10 writers and she can’t possible stereotype all of us into one single “bashful” category, considering that only a small percentage of our content is hateful. This is just a publicity stunt!

I used to love Fashion Indie, and really thought the site had potential until I read your articles gushing over New York Couture, which other than being a really heinous.. poorly crafted line, is nothing more pitiful than what an incoming freshman at that overrun puppy mill called FIT could produce. Not to mention how your crew salivates over Audrey Kitching’s cottage cheese thighs. Ugh.

We’re not hating on Missbehave Mag. We have a subscription and love their content. They’re pretty awesome and talk about shit we love.

We’re just not too keen when one of their writers decide to call us overweight, unattractive, and suggest that we don’t get laid. That’s just not cool (and seriously untrue).

In the same way our readers have the option to comment when we talk shit about fatties, Andre Leon Tally, and people from Middle America, we should have the option to talk shit about an internet celebrity wannabe who feels the only way she can get attention is to kick us in the balls.

If you disagree, that’s cool, but don’t assume it’s cause we’re bitter at Missbehave, we love them mucho.

Also, New York Couture rocks. Her collection is far better that any of the shit the Heatherette boys try to squeeze out every year and Audrey Kitching is a hottie. Sounds like someone dropped a deuce in your corn flakes this morning, cause you’re sounding like a hater.

She didn’t ACTUALLY talk shit, just posted theories about why you guys might be assholes…which you openly admitted to. Missbehave and Sarah sure as hell don’t need to pull stunts to get attention, she was posting her opinion which is LEGAL, and according to your post encouraged! Why so salty? And furthermore, the word “bashful” is related to being shy not to BASHING someone’s reputation. Her post is hardly hate mail, she expressed previous interest and a desire for less negativity…minus suggesting you might be ugly, angry fatties, it was pretty civil. And yes, you got none of your facts right and had grammatical errors in your comments and post. Be happy you’re getting attention!

We’re not offended, we just get on the defense whenever some internet celebrity wannabe gets an rock hard for us and feels bashing us might be a way to get some attention.

Since you started this bash battle, we’ll be the ones to end it.

We didn’t Google you cause we knew we wouldn’t find anything, we just checked out your profile on Missbehave which had a link to your MySpace. But for future reference, when you are in journalism it’s a smart thing to do a little research before you write something. We decided to do this before we went after you, we found your myspace and listed 18 as your age cause we assumed you wouldn’t be the type to lie about something like that since most 18 year olds aren’t taken seriously by publishers and magazines. We were wrong.

You didn’t just say our site had a mean undertone. You didn’t just write it on your personal site, to your tiny group of devotees. You wrote it on Missbehave’s site, which probably doesn’t get too much traffic, but still, it’s not exactly good press for our company. You even had to give your post it’s own tag category, “Dumb Websites”. (though I’m sure all future posts in this category will be toned down, you can’t go around calling a website’s writers underfucked, fatties with anger issues without getting a couple letters from lawyers).

Obviously, you put a lot of thought into your post and considering it’s the longest article you’ve ever written for the site, I’m sure you really wanted it to be your Pulitzer piece which means you probably knew we’d retaliate.

We’re not some massive company, we’re just a small band of fashion people with a passion for indie fashion. Most of our posts are focussed around new designers, photoshoots, models and industry news. Usually, only a handful are “Opinion” pieces in which our writers get a chance to rant about whatever they have on their minds. We always encourage our readers to bash us back or tell us we’re assholes or say that we don’t know what we’re talking about, it opens up conversations and gets people involved in what we’re saying. We love it so much we usually feature our favorite hate mail.

We’re a pretty tight knit group of writers here at Fashion Indie. We might not be the best, we might not have taken Fashion Writing 101, we might forget to spell check from time to time or might misuse a “there/their/or they’re” (we’re working on that one), but attack one of us and you attack all of us. Which means your bash on Fashion Indie affects all ten of our writers and, as President, that pisses me off especially.

I will always do my utmost defend our writers.

They work really hard and write some of the most original articles the online fashion world has to offer. They might not be Vogue-worthy in the eyes of an elitist like you, but we love them and will always feature anything they have to say.

If you have a problem with our site then don’t read it. But don’t make it your mission to talk shit about us if you aren’t prepared to have shit talked about you. The lawsuit talk was a joke, you’re not actually stupid enough to think we were being serious? Please, do you think our lawyers want to be bothered whenever some failed writer decides to bash us?

Oh and thanks for admitting to sucking on photographers dicks, really classy.

    Basically Sarah, go fuck yourself.

PS. We’ll probably see you tonight at Supreme Trading. We’ll be the group of people in corner flinging lime slices at your head and booing whenever they hand you the mike. Why they would choose such a loser to judge a beauty pageant is beyond me, but I guess stranger things have happened in fashion.

Thanks for the support Jenelle. The amount of hate mail we get sometimes is ridiculous, I just feel I have the right to defend my baby (Fashion Indie).

It’s been four years that we’ve been building our company and we’ve always been against the trend when it comes to journalism and our opinions.

It’s just funny how some people see that as “being mean” why others just see it as being original.

Anyways, I appreciate the comments from people who actually read our site cause it shows that not everyperson out there thinks we’re just a bunch of assholes with nothing better to do.

We insist on making bold statements cause it fosters an environment in which we can get responses and really judge public opinion on a subject. Sarah saw that as weakness on our part, we see it as our greatest strength.

We don’t feel the need to talk badly about a magazine that we used to admire and look fondly when it was one specific writer who bashed our site. I try not to take things personally, but when it comes to attacking my company, it’s a completely different story. We’re admittedly assholes at times, but for the most part our coverage is just opinionated and states what we actually feel about fashion and designers.

I took it to a personal level cause Misshapes writer refused to identify who she was talking about when she stated that our entire site was mean spirited, that’s just not true. Then she went on to attack our writers, making fun of them without ever specifying which writer she was attacking. If she specified that writer could defend themselves, but when it’s the whole company she’s against, it’s up to me to defend it, and I will always do so to the best of my abilities.

We still enjoy MissBehave magazine, but have grown to hate this one writer and her bitchy friend who has threatened my life.
