LAST NIGHT’S MOVIE: Sam Mendes’ “Away We Go”
Like my fashion, music, literature and entertainment, It’s safe to say that I’m very picky about my movies as well. I’ve been on quite the hiatus from a theater since “Revolutionary Road” raped me of $15 and stole 2 precious hours of my life. But thanks to Diesel and last night’s screening of Sam Mendes’ “Away We Go,” I was dragged out of my bitterness and doused with everything good about American film.
“Away We Go” tells the story of the semi-hipster couple Bert (John Krasinski of The Office) and Verona (Vendela Vida) who are on the hunt for the perfect environment to raise their soon to come daughter. From Tuscon to Madison and Montreal to Miami, the two encounter an array families, some odd, some awkward and some charming. Though Bert and Verona choose what they admire and deplore in each of these family situations, the two decide make their own way to give their daughter what’s best.
Hilarious. Charming. Illuminating. The after-party on the other hand…well, that could use some work.
“Away We Go” is out in New York and Los Angeles theaters tomorrow, June 5th. Definitely should be on your list of film’s to see.
